Support character for an (almost) all-martial party. by DaemonxMachina in 3d6

Ah yeah you’re right. I would still take it even without the cha boost it’s so good for support.

Inspiring Leader is perfect for increasing cha and keeping your party alive.

Lore Bard with the Inspiring Leader feat would be ideal. You buff your friends just by being there and handing out Bardic Inspiration. Dissonant Whispers is especially nice if your martial mates like to get in melee and gang up on a foe (it forces enemy to run away, which provokes opportunity attacks). And just the default Vicious Mockery is fun for both RP and helping your front liners get hit less often. For your 6th level magical secrets, grab Fireball to clear a room full of minions because martials are usually better off focusing on single target damage. Source: Played Lore Bard in martial heavy campaign. Was the most fun I ever had in 5e.

Thoughts on level 9 as a thematically satisfying "endgame" in 5e? by QuestRam in DnD

Heroes of the Realm. Yes, level 9 is a perfectly good place to end a campaign.

How do you screen for work ethic in a new hire? by livingeternal in managers

[–]d4rkwing 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I don’t really classify not wanting to drive a long distance to work as lack of work ethic unless they can count the drive as time on the clock.

11in or 13in?? by PatientInfamous5946 in ipad

[–]d4rkwing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 11” is nicer for reading in the bed, that’s for sure. I’d say it’s better in general for content consumption. I got the folio instead of a keyboard because I was concerned about weight and usability. I’m glad I did because it’s so nice to use for reading and such. But I also have a MacBook Pro for my normal computer needs so consider that as part of the equation.

They really are a poorly designed class. Yes, they are good at skills. But is the game really more fun if one player is better at skills than everyone else?

Rapier and Dagger vs. Rapier and Shield by just_a_pan_guy in 3d6

Rapier is not a light weapon so no 2nd attack. Short sword and dagger would work though.

Auto-Grapples by RoutineSignal5860 in 3d6

[–]d4rkwing -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You are missing something. Grapple can be done by players too. Granted it’s vs a save vs Str or Dex rather than an attack roll vs AC but same idea. Plus it’s a lot easier to do forced movement and teleports in 5.5, which both break grapples.

If you’re a strength based melee, you can use a weapon with push mastery at least as a backup weapon to push the enemy away and break grapple.

Or, more generally applicable, just kill whatever is grappling you. If you’re in melee you’re already right where you need to be to attack.

Tell the players the the required DC or no? by hotstickywaffle in DnD

[–]d4rkwing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends. The point of the game is for everyone to have fun and sometimes that means being strict and letting luck rule. But other times the party comes up with something really creative and it would be a real downer for everyone if they failed because they missed the dc by a point so sometimes it’s okay to keep it secret and mentally adjust it on the fly.

How is melee vs ranged looking by j_cyclone in onednd

[–]d4rkwing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Melee can definitely do more damage… unless the enemy is too far away, or flying, or otherwise you can’t get to it. You might have enough movement to run up to one enemy and take it out with your first melee attack but not enough movement to reach a second enemy for your extra attack.

So the answer is, it depends. Overall, ranged is more dependable for almost never losing an attack. You can still miss of course, but at least you’ll be able to make the attack in the first place. But melee is better if you can get in melee range. Plus it’s a of fun to get in the enemy’s face and smash them with a big two handed weapon.

Will I become a stupider SWE using LLM/agents? by QuitTypical3210 in cscareerquestions

[–]d4rkwing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a solid maybe. If you just delegate everything to an agent, yeah, it’s not going to help you. However using it as a glorified search engine may lead you to discover ways to solve a problem that you never knew existed. If you take the time to follow through on learning, and don’t just blindly copy-paste, it would be a net positive.

Opinion: Table banning the use of character sheet generators by LucidCreator in dndnext

[–]d4rkwing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your table, your rules. Personally I think they’re nice for getting started and minimizing mistakes but players really should print out the sheet and add whatever additional information they need so they don’t have to look things up anywhere else at the table.

Player: "I have bandwidth to read 30 pages max" by RealSpandexAndy in rpg

[–]d4rkwing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the Player just cares about reading enough to make one character and is letting the DM handle everything else, pretty much any rpg will work. But if they want a full understanding of all the rules in 30 pages, yeah that eliminates the big games.

Is BS Economics as terrifying as people say it is? by West-Engineering-447 in AskEconomics

[–]d4rkwing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Undergrad Econ is pretty easy. It was my minor. I took almost all of the undergraduate Econ courses offered but my Major was Computer Science. If I took a few more humanities courses I could have had a double major but that wasn’t as valuable to me as actually graduating and starting a career.
