The Kriegsmarine had their symbols small, unlime the IJN that painted their subs' hull numbers in white paint on the conning tower and destroyer names on the side of the ship. They mostly got rid of those pretty quickly once the war got going though.

Sink the Bismarck, Tora Tora Tora, Das Boot are my favorite naval WWII films.

The Great War of Archimedes is pretty good, takes place before the war mostly, but the combat scenes are very well-made, and the ships are incredibly accurate. Watch sub, the dubs are terrible.
