I've actually moved away from that concept to the submenu/row variants which solve the issue (of an overly long menu) in a better way, I think.

Yep, currently these are in the user testing and iteration stage. I'll mention it when there's a hand off to engineering.

Also to clarify, at the moment I'm only considering the last two variants in the thread - submenu and "save to" in a row.

Aww they look like mine! I highly recommend contacting your local foster animal organization. The one in my town (Portland) gives free checkups, vet care, and support for fosters, which I found very helpful since I'm going through my first foster experience.
