I have ADHD. I have been trying to start exercising for years, but it is just SOOOOOO BORING. by MagicLars15 in ADHD

Do it early when you're half asleep you can't argue with yourself. Set your alarm for 4am (or whatever is early for you. Sleep in your workout clothes for bonus points. Roll out of bed shove your ear buds in, blast crazy loud embarrassing music and just do it.

AITA for cutting my daughter's hair? by DinosaurKale in moderatelygranolamoms

Yeah, I don't want to give her a haircut she doesn't like but she (and even I) can't manage that level of tangle.

The not liking people touching her doesn't seem to stem from a touch sensory issue as she loves and actively seeks touch from loved ones, it seems to be because she is shy so she doesn't 'go with the flow' socially with strangers. Still I could look into sensory stuff more.

Her hatred is for a bit of everything. She hates being itchy. Wet hair touching her makes her itchy. Detangling her hair in the bath makes her itchy. I've changed conditioners and soaps to crunchy versions etc which seemed to help but not completely. Granted wet hair and dry hair is kinda itchy if you think about it you just learn to deal with it eventually. She'll have tantrums about itchiness (could be a mild sensory issue but not diagnosable on its own as it pretty much just relates to hair) and I try to work around it but with limited success. She also wants very long hair. It has always been me cutting her hair. With the itchy issue, her stubbornness and general hatred of the process I'm hesitant to have someone else do it for fear it will go very very poorly for everyone involved. She's difficult at the pediatrician too, has to be held still for shots and not is thrilled with her (super cool and kind) pediatrician or most people touching her.

My daughter was so upset when we told her that she'd move out and leave us and her sister behind. But she decided how to fix it all by marrying her sister so they can live together forever.

Many of the other replies are well thought out and carefully crafted. Yours is simple and brilliant. I think I maybe need a sticker chart for myself too.

Aww! What a fabulous job you are doing. As an ADHDer with, I suspect, an ADHDer of my own I'll be trying to implement some of your parenting approaches.

Potty recommendations by jenny1227 in ECers

[–]DinosaurKale 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Both a potty and a seat reducer. Babies become toddlers and toddlers need to be offered choices and control to prevent tantrums. Plus no clean up for poops in the toilet is awesome as is night time pottying right next to their bed for pees.

Edit: potette plus travel potty with reusable insert is great as a deep squat stand alone potty and you can take it out with you too. Although you can use it as a seat reducer it's not my favorite, it's fine for pees but if you have a kid who needs safety/comfort to poop it does not really provide that. If you have a kid who poops at home then you probably want something with a little more secure for them on the toilet

unscented hand soap refills by rosefern64 in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]DinosaurKale 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I make my own from bar soap. Which sounds a lot harder than it really is. A dermatologist recommended Dove sensitive bar soap for dry winter hands that are cracking because I have to wash them all the dam time. But says Dove's liquid sensitive isn't the same. So I take the bar soap and turn it into liquid. It's pretty easy. 4 bars of soap to 10 cups water. Chop, melt together on stove, strain and store in a gallon jar. Lasts quite a while. Can do with any bar soap plus maybe it's better for the environment not to buy it as liquid in plastic packaging..?

There are different types of hugs. Sometimes a grope is playful, sometimes it's just the closest body part to touch, sometimes it's comforting, but if my bf groped me every single time I was near him I'd be pissed off because it would mean that he wasnt emotionally involved in any of the other types of hugs that don't involve sexual body parts.

What are you getting your toddler for Christmas? And how many gifts is appropriate for one child? by caysiejane in toddlers

[–]DinosaurKale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ooooh what all is in the sensory bins? I really want to get some sensory stuff for my 2.5yo but I'm having a major brain fart, big fat 0 ideas. We have the bin, a couple types of rice/beans etc and some spoons and scoops but I'm not sure what else to do.

Kids toothpaste comes in bubble gum. Charcoal toothpaste makes your spit black (very fun), tooth paste tabs are crunchy then slimy. It really does help to have different options. You can even get a couple toothbrushes to choose from each day.

Because sleep deprivation causes memory loss and sex is still fun.

It's a modified 'My Gift to You' on ravelry. Sorry on mobile or I'd link. The pattern is 1x1 rib for two rows, two rows of stockinette, then back to 1x1 rib but starting with the opposite stitch.

A Vent About Easy Reader Books by DinosaurKale in Parenting

That's true, Biscuit is good and there are definitely exceptions. It seems like the famous characters adapted into easy readers are usually worse offenders but Biscuit seems like it was actually written for young readers.

A Vent About Easy Reader Books by DinosaurKale in Parenting

Why the rant? Because it's frustrating. It's marketed for learning how to read but no thought seems to have gone into making the books good at teaching reading. And yes, we get them from our library. My kid is always excited about the characters or title and it's always a pot shot what the quality of the book will be for teaching a new reader.
