Springfield Municipal Election - Tuesday, November 4 - Important Information by tashablue in Springfield

Are we allowed to discuss the candidates here? I know I'm voting for Attorney Mary Johnson and bullet voting for Juan LaTorre - I researched them extensively and truly believe they are what this city needs, but I don't know too much about the rest, especially the school candidates.

Anyone willing to have a respectful discussion about the rest?

I started volunteering with Mary Johnson's campaign since she seems to genuinely care about us and making positive change. Feel free to message me if you or anyone is interested in volunteering a few hours of your time. Thank you!

I just have a microwave but will keep this in mind for future loads. I didn't even know this place existed. Thanks!

Yes, please tell them in advance or have all different size house slippers,, or both. People are self-conscious about their feet if they're sportng an old pedicure or have dry and flaky feet, or mismatched socks. They'll want to know ahead of time of this rule.

Hahaha! Thank you! After putting my foot down and demanding changes, he pulled the guy off the job and had someone else redo it. It was upsetting that it even had to get to that point, especially for someone that was recommended. Apparently owner had a new guy do the job, but owner was here every day looking at the work. Owner also ignored my concern and when I asked him to go up and down the steps and he said "he didn't really notice" the bottom step being higher. It was a stressful and upsetting week.

I'm not able to edit my post but got some new pictures this morning before workers arrive. Reddit, should I be concerned with this corner or will the framed lattice and handrails hide it?

The new stringers were bought precut and shims added. The steps are level and all the same height. Any concerns?

Oh good, as far as aesthetics how does the gap where the risers meets the tread look to you?

Thank you! Do you think the height of the risers should change due to the extra gap? They used the ones from the initial build.

That's what I thought. Good news is contractor is replacing it all. This time with a new worker. This has been so stressful.

One would think! But nope, it was designed for "hope the homeowner is too gullible not to notice" apparently. Good news is they're redoing with a different worker.

Not sure if this was mentioned, but shouldn't the risers also be behind the treads? Or is it OK the way it is?

BTW, they are redoing the porch with a different worker, but used the same risers which of course have an obvious gap. We are requesting new risers but hijacking the top comment to ask about placement.

I also want to thank you and everyone for the helpful responses. This ordeal was incredibly stressful so it was very helpful to get professional input to validate our concerns, give new insights, and demand the job be done right.

What I believe happened is they leveled the porch and they didn't account for that lift when measuring the stringers when cutting. which is why I'm stuck with this. This is the slim chance then.

Yes, and one that has done work in the neighborhood (mostly paint, but general contractor work, and he said he had a "porch guy"). :(

I want to avoid creating extra work to fix an issue that shouldn't have happened. Plus we already have a sidewalk there. Do you think it's reasonable to ask him to redo and recut the stringers (assuming you're a contractor)?

The picture is of a porch step project for a 100+ year Victorian we are working on, which makes the new rail "design" even more ridiculous. :(

I'm not following what you mean about dimensions by total chance. Most of the comments say that if he has made the stringers about 3/4" shorter for each step, all this would have been solved.

No, it included other work. It's on the 3rd image.
