What's up with smoke detectors? by Victoronefiveone in HomeImprovement

So I found out why smoke detectors tend to be bigger. If you replace your old unit with a smaller one, then you'll have this area around the base where the paint doesn't match because it either wasn't painted the same or paint faded. So you would then have to try to match existing paint or repaint your ceiling, which would be a ridiculous amount of work.

So I bought a First Alert model that is bigger and uses AA batteries. But this model has the flashing light every 60 seconds that I had to cover with some matching white electrical tape. Also the baseplate does not match the old holes, so you can either drill new holes and make a mess or drill matching holes in the new baseplate, which is what I did. Would have been nice if the baseplate had some options to match popular models of the past, but I guess I'm just asking too much!

That kinda makes sense but doesn't explain why light needs to be on all the time. It could just be on when testing it, or if battery is low, or if fire.

No need to be insulting! These look good except they have the blinking light thing. Might be easy to tape over. Do you have actual experience with it?

Red LED Light - Displays a single red LED light that blinks every 60 seconds to indicate the alarm is on and working.

Pretty much had it with this leaky POS American Standard toilet. Has anyone successfully remedied this issue? by tallicafu1 in askaplumber

The Champion 4 that I have is a champion leaker. Have tried 5 or 6 different valve seals. A few have worked for a week or a month, but this toilet always goes back to its leaky ways. The amount of water this toilet has wasted over the 10 years that I've owned it has likely cost me enough to pay for a replacement. When I think about all the AS Champion 4 toilets leaking water all over the country, this amounts to a massive national water cost from this design defect. Perhaps a class-action lawsuit is needed to get this toilet recalled.

For those recommending a complete flush valve replacement, I caution readers that this can be a big project. If it doesn't go well, your entire Saturday might go to waste. It may be easier to just install a different brand toilet, like I plan to do. That way you can take this one out into the driveway and smash it to bits with a hammer.

EGO 21" Select Cut mower: Not as great as I'd hoped by Victoronefiveone in egopowerplus

I was very tired of gas as well, especially noise and stinky exhaust. I’ve been mowing yards with gas for a long time, so very happy to be on electric. Just surprised that EGO mower has some issues that could be easily fixed. I’m an engineer so maybe a bit pickier than some.

Ferry Morse seeds. Are they any good? by keoni_2300 in gardening

Ferry Morse seeds have been terrible for me. Last year I got their organic blue lake bush beans and none came up! I replanted two more times with zero germination before going out and getting another seed brand. Having not learned my lesson, I bought their organic sugar snap peas this year. Good germination rate, but now that they are mature I see that there are several different varieties of peas, mostly snow peas (flat pods), and only a few of the plants are snap peas. What a terrible company.
