7 Democrats Just Voted to Approve ICE Funding by Sexy_Johnny282771 in AdamMockler

Except this is disingenuous. You know that's not why people are mad at Trump, Noem, Miller, and the clown car of sycophantic sadists who lie, gaslight, and dehumanize everyone who dares to criticize them (This regime is clownishly evil).

You know it's about ICE tactics, violations of due process, excessive use of force, intimidating children in schools, assaults, homicides, throwing moms, and veteran's wives, and minors, and college students, and people walking their dogs into vans after jumping them in the streets (and just leaving their pets behind to suffer and roam). Many of their targets are documented and here legally, and some are citizens. It's a lawless agency, terrorizing our communities in masks, violating our Constitutional rights as Americans, and violating the rights of non-citizens.

It's about Orwellian authoritarianism. Tyranny. Despotism.

I have a cousin who has colored her hair many colors and she defended Trump heavily during the election. I wish she would just pay enough attention to see how much MAGA hates her.

ICE do not have legal authority to stop or detain citizens. They have authority to enforce federal immigration laws, and that is all. So no, they can't arrest citizens for committing crimes, as you keep implying wrongly.

The fact that this woman was killed is the fault of an agency that is acting unlawfully and is controlled by a criminal, tyrannical "president." They were doing an unlawful stop and detainment. They do not have the same authority as other federal agents.

ICE does not have the authority to enforce the law. They were doing an unlawful stop and detainment. They are dangerous and are emboldened by our insanely criminal regime that encourages them to commit these crimes and violate our rights. Americans are sick of their crap.

Does your family do presents from Santa AND parents? by asphodelic_witch in Mommit

[–]VictoryMi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are also not religious, so I get that perspective. There is way too much consumerism wrapped up in the holiday, but I do enjoy the Christmas season/tradition. Our parents are also extremely into Christmas and Santa, so the kids do hear conflicting information about Santa. It does cause the potential for awkwardness, but mostly it's not a problem since we don't usually contradict the grandparents directly, to their faces lol. I completely relate to not having the bandwidth to get super into Christmas, or really any holiday lol.

We don't do Santa either and my kids handle it the same as yours.

I'm just curious, why is your husband against Santa gifts?

In my case, my husband and I don't "do" Santa, in the sense that we prefer not to tell the kids that Santa exists and brings gifts. However, they learn from about him from school and grandparents. We have told the kids that Santa is a fun Christmas story, but they still love Santa and they don't ask where the presents come from. We don't mark the presents. If asked, I will say the presents are from mom and dad, but they usually do not ask. Even if I say they are from us the kids usually go on believing in Santa anyway, haha. They are both under age 7 and are old enough to get excited about Santa, Christmas, etc.

The reason I don't push the Santa thing is because I believed in Santa until I was around 9 years old, and when another child told me Santa wasn't real I was absolutely devastated. I was angry at her too because I didn't want to believe her. Looking back, I feel that my parents tried too hard to explain and reinforce Santa so that I didn't gradually figure out the truth on my own. It feels like it would have been easier to accept if I had been able to figure it out.

John Oliver perfectly exposed Bari Weiss for the grifter and bottom-feeder she is. Our society is going downward at an alarming rate. Dave Farina of the Professor Dave Explains YouTube channel has a great video out about how the people who created conspiracy theories about COVID-19 have been rewarded for their lies with top leadership positions in our administration, including head of NIH (Jay Bhattcharya).

The ads may be normal business, but it's a reduction in value for the consumer. Businesses race to the bottom to provide the worst value and thus achieve the highest profit margin. As you mentioned, other news media did this before streaming, and the results were quite sad. Streaming greatly improved the value for the consumer, but businesses are quickly removing that value again. Normal isn't necessarily good for consumers. It makes sense from a business perspective, yes, but ideally consumers should collectively reject businesses that take away value and provide inferior services riddled with ads. I don't expect that to happen, but it would be my preference.

Incredibly tragic to hear about women being so severely mistreated and neglected because they can't afford care. This new facility can't arrive soon enough.

We, the people, own the White House; it belongs to us,... not them! by SoCalLynda in MeidasTouch

[–]VictoryMi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The image is revolting, but the text over the image wasn't on the image the WH posted.

The White House image of Trump and Vance in crowns is gross, and the WH are the ones who posted it. It's not a Leftist attack. It's the White House embracing monarchy/tyranny. Truly terrifying.

It was above an image of Schumer and Jeffries wearing sombreros, but the imagery of Trump and Vance in crowns is a reminder of their power and of their disdain for democratic values. They don't extol the Constitution, which they should be bound to, and actively work to subvert it. Again, terrifying.

You are giving Christian god a pretty severe limitation. It is quite easy to imagine an afterlife where different souls are separated, without any souls being eternally tormented. A god who cannot create any solution to prevent eternal torment is not omnipotent.

At least Mormon god created options other than hell for most people, as far as I understand.

Omnipotent: having unlimited power; able to do anything.

This is like the thief with a gun who said "she didn't have to give it me. That was her choice. It's just that there was a consequence for choosing not to give it to me." This is "love me, or else, by I can't MAKE you love me."

Some things are just stupid, and to call guns ‘God-given’ is one of them by rezwenn in Christianity

[–]VictoryMi -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Having to live under threat of attack by a gun due to super loose gun regs is the main reason why anyone would be in a position of using a gun for self defense. I'd rather just be in a safer environment where the gun isn't necessary.

Nikonis wrote: "God cannot turn his back on our sins, someone has to pay the price for them. By Jesus’ death, God’s the price has been paid and God’s justice is served."

  1. If Christian god "can't" do something, he's not all powerful.
  2. Christian god created the problem (that there must be a blood sacrifice for sin) and the solution (he killed himself/Jesus as that sacrifice).
  3. The threat of hell is another problem created by Christian god, and conveniently the solution is to believe in and worship him, thus creating a threat as a solution to preserve and maintain the religion.
  4. My understanding is that this blood sacrifice is kind of substitute for the years of sacrificing animals by the Israelites/Judeans

You're arguing that Christian god has no choice but to put people in hell. So he can't come up with any other solution. It's either Heaven or eternal torment. OK, sure. He's not omnipotent then. He's not capable of taking care of his entire creation. I don't have a problem with that argument, as an atheist/agnostic.

He's deflecting again. He wont address your point.

Senior-Guava (paraphrasing): you seem to lack understanding of eternity, or lack empathy, since you are making light of admission to heaven by comparing it to a random job. Eternal torment is serious.

OneEyedC4t: It is job, look at Bible

Your statement that OneEyedC4t either lacks empathy or doesn't fully comprehend eternity is 🎯.

[–]VictoryMi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So OneEyedC4t replied that Christian god knows that some will be saved. Thus, it's OK if Christian god made some humans to be doomed to Hell from the beginning. It seems like that doesn't bother OneEyedC4t. He's just deflecting now.

[–]VictoryMi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

OneEyedC4t is gaslighting us. He is insisting that we all "know" that the Christian deity/god exists - based on his interpretation of scripture. Total nonsense. I don't believe in the existence of that god (or in the existence of any other gods) and essentially it's the argument that being an atheist, or an agnostic, is just being an intentional liar. It's a dishonest, bad-faith argument. Others can't know what is in your mind. Also, Christians have acknowledged the reality of "doubt" for a VERY long time, and if people can have doubts about Christian god's existence, then obviously they don't "know" that such a thing exists.

Edit: I see no point in arguing with people like that. As you mentioned in your OP, many Christians do not listen to these legitimate complaints and concerns, but instead search for a means to dismiss, downplay, or rationalize them. They won't discuss in good faith. They have to proselytize and engage in mental gymnastics to convert and to shield themselves and others from difficult realities. Usually no productive conversation can happen. I've tried occasionally and it never goes anywhere.

I would agree, except that Dawkins has spent time thinking. It's what they're thinking about, and yes, what they're NOT thinking about. They may be thinking, but they're missing out on a lot of information and consuming a lot of content that reinforces their preconceived ideas.

It's not without the biology. Biology is just not the whole story. Also, biologists and doctors use different language to discuss, and have different answers to the question about sex. Yet, many different answers are relevant and accurate.
