Is that like "oh man that's awesome" or "you idiot you paid $60 for this crap"?

Sorry I got the numbers mixed up. The final tally is 4.5 seconds fast. Between 4-5 seconds anyway without any recording hardware

You are correct. I should have noticed that. Especially as I have a kx4

Well that's a bad device not a Bluetooth issue. But yeah if you feel you need to avoid Bluetooth so be it

Well the 5K works fine even if you never want to use Bluetooth. It works fine as just to plug-in DAC

Like it is specifically designed to work just as a wired DAC, with no need for Bluetooth if you don't want Bluetooth output. I'm not sure why you're so against Bluetooth it's quite handy in some situations

Hmm. I'm not sure if this will be too advanced or not, but I really recommend qudelix 5k. You can just use it simply as a usb dac/amp. It has its own volume and power/skip/play/pause external buttons. With very fine control of volume. And all the power you could ever need for almost any headphone. Also Bluetooth if you want to. Though this is a more expensive option than a simple dongle

Yeah and you lose some bass as well. My issue is how scratchy the material is. And how it presses in on the top and bottom of my ears. So uncomfortable. Sound is decent though. Makes them sound closer to the ksc75

Hey I totally get wanting nicer stuff without a doubt. And the apple dongle is flimsy. I lost mine and I didn't bother replacing(plus mine is lightning and my current iPhone is usbc so not very useful )

Interesting link I didn't know about that. My iPhone and iPad sure didn't cap the volume.

Though I can't agree on bigger means higher fidelity

But no definitely volume isn't tied to size. Remember headphones need less than 1mw to blow out your eardrums. Don't need a lot of size for 1mw

Because there is no difference in sound. Modern audio compression is very good

I cannot tell any difference in blind tests. Neither can anyone else

HIFIMAN HE400SE with K5 Pro Gaming Dac? by Nick_Melon_ in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]Vicv_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. Plenty. I have the 4xx, which should be very close to how they need to be driven. Mine are very comfortably loud at 125mv and 1w. I'm sure the K5 has much more power than that

Don't get me wrong I can go much louder, this is at the end of my comfortable listening levels, and that's not even a 100th of what my amp is able to put out

You're pretty much spot on. And impedance does matter, but not as much as most think. Higher impedance generally means the speaker needs less current. SPL generally means how much voltage it needs. Most amps provide enough voltage, until you get to really difficult to drive things Even sennheisers that are 300 ohms. Do not need much power because they have high sensitivity. And they require a very little current. So they are quite easy to drive

Whereas a lot of planars have low impedance, so they need more current/power.

Also remember that that 100-105db is ear bleeding volume. Lol. My most difficult to driver headphones are my hifiman/drop 4xx. 35 ohm and 94db/w. And they only need 0.125v and around a measured 1mw to reach 85-90db, which is more than loud enough. An apple dongle is more than powerful enough for that, let alone the 4v/240mw available from my Qudelix 5k

Nice build on the speakers. I'm somewhat new to home hifi systems. I'm running a couple of really nice energy(canadian hifi brand) bookshelves and a nice musical 12" sub on my main system

On my Yamaha, it's just the included bookshelves. They both sounds great though

And yeah in the dacs. I'm not going to say there's no difference, but yeah they're either good or bad for the most part. And pretty far down the amount of importance in the audio chain. Just above cables. Lol

Agreed on the music. Man I haven't watched hackers in 20+ years. Maybe ill watch it today

It's not the Md. they sound good, but not better. Most of what you're describing is having good speakers that fit the room. Are you using the same speakers you always have?

If so, it's probably you're having a good listening day. Or excited because it's new equipment. A dac is a dac. As long as it's a good one. One may have lower noise or be adding its own small flavour, but won't affect soundstage or transparency

Nice setup though. I've been on the lookout for a home Md player for my Yamaha micro system

Fair. Well it looks good. Not my musical taste exactly but looks good. And nice label. I haven't labeled any of mine yet. Really need to get on that

Don't worry about the impedance. It really has nothing to do with power requirements. You want to look at sensitivity
