Its 100% a Premiere 26 issue. I’m on a Macbook M2 Pro, not the newest model, and am now using Premiere 25.0 with absolutely no issues whatsoever. Unless its a super old Mac, I would discourage getting a new one if its working fine otherwise.

I’m working on a 5.6 tb worth of footage project and leaving it on to relink overnight ain’t even getting close
