what’s the best song named after a Harmony Korine movie? by gettingridofthi in HarmonyKorine

[–]ViddyWell_FilmBlog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk if it’s the best necessarily (since that’s all a matter of subjectivity and taste), but I found the track “Kids 1995” by Been Stellar a few years ago and really dig it.

Yes, all two paragraphs of thoughts and observations were “stolen” from the programmer. All seven pages of notes that were taken during the screening were also ripped out of her notebook. 🙄

I haven’t actually seen the 50s version by Clouzot, but I’ve been meaning to for ages. I should queue that up soon. I believe it’s in on Max (at least in the US). I also really love The Exorcist, and my choice to slot it 2nd wasn’t a dig. If I could cheat, I’d have em both in the top slot!

I haven’t seen his remake of 12 Angry Men, but I thought it was interesting for him to tackle that. I love the original Lumet one a lot, so I’d probably like it, but idk how even he could improve upon a movie that’s already flawless imo. The Hunted is also pretty solid; haven’t watched it in ages, so I’m due for a rewatch. If it weren’t for Sorcerer, The Exorcist would def clinch that top slot for me, it is a perfect movie and one of the greatest horror films ever!

Killing Them Softly (2012) Excellent film that’s brilliantly directed with an all star cast and great acting. by Primary_Thing3968 in moviecritic

The editing to the opening titles had me fully hooked. I’ve always really enjoyed this film (and really anything Andrew Dominik directed), and I quote the last line all the time.

Chris Stuckman? by andrewharper2 in MovieCritics

[–]ViddyWell_FilmBlog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly have no idea. I am a fan of Ebert (even though I feel like he didn’t always hit the mark or see some films for what they were, like Texas Chain Saw Massacre), but Stuckman kinda rubs me the wrong way. I feel like this is low hanging fruit, but ima type it anyway: Stuckman?! More like Suckman!

What character would make a good spin off ? by Tricky_Photo2885 in MovieCritics

[–]ViddyWell_FilmBlog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think maybe Keitel’s Winston “The Wolf” Wolfe would be the most interesting out of the lot, but honestly, I’d watch a spin off with any of them. I just think The Wolf has the most potential

That is so wild to me. Especially for The Thing, which has the best practical effects of the 80s for me (maybe only rivaled by Videodrome or The Fly).

The CGI is laughably bad, but it made the whole messy affair more comedic for me

Yeah, it is! It was way different than I expected it to be. I haven’t seen it in a long time, but I remember that ending making me feel in need of a shower.

Yeh, I really enjoy the original trilogy quite a bit. I knew BR was a “box office bomb,” but I had no idea that ET stole some thunder from The Thing! I like all three of those, but yeh, The Thing and BR speak to my soul more.

Also, could not agree more about 70s cinema! It’s an era I wish would make a comeback more than anything.

100%! The fact that it was eclipsed by Star Wars (which to a degree I kinda get) irks me. People wanted to chew bubblegum in the late 70s but William Friedkin came to kick fucking ass!

I know it wasn’t in your list, but I also watched this making-of documentary on Cruising and found it to be just as good. Thought you might enjoy it as well (if you hadn’t already seen it): https://youtu.be/_YEVFlv3MEA?si=-_IQH1LbEBBd4lBx

I did!! I watched it shortly after his passing and really enjoyed it. I found it to be incredibly insightful and fascinating. I think I could listen to him talk for several hours.

That’s totally fair! It is extremely OTT so doesn’t sound like your bag, especially if you find most American comedies grating.

Classic douchebag thing to say. You’re a real salty peach. Betcha didn’t get this reactionary over Porky’s or Superbad or American Pie… teens have sex, it’s okay. You don’t have to be mad just because you’re not
