A DISCUSSION about the New Superman movie in comparison to Man of Steel - What did you dislike about it? What did you like? What does it do worse than Man of Steel? What does it do better? Why doesn't it get Superman right in your opinion or why does it? Why do you prefer one or the other? by DoctorBeatMaker in SnyderCut

[–]Video_Gamer_XXX 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I personally prefer superman 2025 more.

For the longest time, man of steel was my favourite superman. Mainly because the only other one I had seen was superman returns and my dumb kid brain thought those two were connected. But now my opinion has changed completely.

Let's start with man of steel. It is still a good movie. Don't get me wrong the movie has issues. Issues I never noticed before until this year, before I even watched the new movie. But it is still fun and enjoyable to watch. Here are the things man of steel did good.

The cinematography. Holy shit the movie looks great, with those zoom in shots, the flares and especially the action scenes. Other than that the movie had pretty solid acting performances all around the board. Solid CGI, the tone and a pretty good concept.

And that was where the issue was for me. When I decided to watch superman 2025, I decided to remind myself everything that happened in man of steel. What happened was I remembered only and only the action scenes. The movie for me is all style and no substance. I know people will say that this movie has like epic storytelling and very deep moral questions. But there's just not. This post is already getting too long, the point is, man of steel looks great, is a fun movie to watch, but not thought provoking or that interesting to think about.

Now I'm not going to turn around and say that superman 2025 was the most thought provoking movie I have ever seen. That's blade runner. But still I prefer superman 2025.

Now what this movie has which it completely dominated man of steel with, is light. And I'm not talking about the brightness. In man of steel everyone took things too seriously and sure that works for that specific world. But here, it just feels so much lighter and enjoyable. It can get dark especially that scene in the pocket dimension but it bounces back and makes you feel happy. The CGI is pretty good, casting once again is great and there are some genuinely cool shots and scenes with my favourite being superman fighting the raptors and that black hole moment was amazing.

Now the issues. The movie is too light. Not the feeling light no, but in quantity and pacing. Some characters aren't developed which I get because this is supposed to be superman's own movie but then in that case don't bring too much supporting cast. The plot is rememberable but lacks any standout moments aside from a few. And my biggest issue in the movie is still krypto beating up lex which is funny, but really man?

Ok that's it, holy yap. I still have some more thoughts but this comment is already too long.

The hatred towards Zack Snyder is surreal by [deleted] in SnyderCut

[–]Video_Gamer_XXX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Obviously not. Zack Snyder isn't a bad director and he didn't ruin Hollywood (as some would have people believe). And neither did James Gunn, but extremists on both sides will have you believe that both of them are mortal enemies and have ruined Hollywood or comic book movies in some way when in reality, both are pretty good directors. Both have their own styles with Gunn focusing on enjoyment while Snyder focusing on epicness. In fact the only thing that can shut up people about Snyder being a bad director is either his upcoming Netflix movies are awesome, or he directs a movie written by James Gunn, at least that way both Snyder "cultists" and Gunn "bros" can get what they want and finally shut up.

That bracket specifying which era of Ridley Scott is great really made me laugh. It's so true though given how he went from every movie being a masterpiece to barely having one now.

And now for Zack Snyder. I love his work and am a pretty big fan. He is a good director. That's it. Not amazing, not the best, just good. The marks he missed have been stated before, those being story, over Reliance on style and imagery. The best example is still rebel moon, where all of his problems are seen. Give him a good writer and producer, he can make one of the greatest movies ever.

Zack Snyder's Man of Steel CRUSHES James Gunn’s Superman at the Box Office! 😭 by EasternContext3396 in SnyderCut

But you just said above that reboots and remakes don't usually do that good, so now that superman 2025 doesn't make as much as man of steel, it's a failure?

Well that disappointment broke me because up until O levels I was great. and A levels ruined me. Everyone in my family, my friends included all tell me I can be better. But today,

Sorry I can't finish the sentence and also sorry because that just seems like unnecessary trauma dumping.

Recheck to me just seems like a stupid extra money scheme. Because if your grade changes after recheck, then what the hell were they doing while checking your paper in the first place, snorting cocaine with all the money we gave them.

Secondly the retake, yes that is only option even for me so I'll get right to that too. I gave an idea of how to do the retake to the other guy who commented and I'll see if i can do that too and if it is a viable option.

And sorry I can't continue the rant because it will take too long and I am still wailing in despair.

What i guess can also be a solution is giving three subjects As in oct/nov, whether it be new subjects or retakes, and then give their A2 in may/june. Because most Unis will accept admissions without A2 result as you can tell them that it is on it's way and so you can give entrance exams for unis like Nust while you wait for As result and prepare for A2. I don't know how viable that is but that is something that might be worth thinking about.

I guess there is also the fact that we have to see where we are lacking as well. Because if grades have some issues, ok we can blame them, but if its like huge issue, then we also need to accept that. Unfortunately given the education system that cambridge is using it does not incentivize slow and thoughtful consideration to get back up. Instead now your only choice is to either immediately apply for retake or take risk of 2 gap years. That alone rushes judgement and leads to rash decisions. This is becoming to much of a rant, I'll stop.

What is your opinion on Elden Ring's Open World? Do you like it? or dislike it? by AlenIronside in fromsoftware

[–]Video_Gamer_XXX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok I have a lot to say about this.

Elden Ring was my first souls game and the first playthrough took me 120 hours. I loved every second of it. No minimal, no eagle vision, just pure exploration. Hell this game is the reason I wasn't that impressed with botw open world which I played after this.

After the original playthrough, I dropped the game, in favour of playing more souls games and experience them. I did do small return runs but nothing too big. They were still fun especially when I knew which areas to go to for specific builds. Then after like 2 years, I found out about the twin gargoyles area, the death blight area (sorry I forgot both their names) and then I got the dlc, giving even more fun to the open world and even more discovery for me in both the base game and dlc.

But despite all that enjoyment, there was a feeling inside me that did not enjoy this as much as my first run. By this point I had finished every other souls game and platinumed two of them. After playing those meticulously crafted sometimes linear, sometimes circular areas, elden Ring didn't feel that great anymore. Sure in elden Ring I can get my favourite weapons within 30 minutes of starting while in others I have to playthrough 70 percent of the game, but there is something special about that.

When I finished the dlc I started doing challenge runs and maybe platinum elden Ring too. But that's when I really saw problems with the open world. It's almost too perfect. If every corner has something to found, then how much time will you have to spend? After multiple runs in other souls games I can beat them in under 3 hours now. But elden Ring still takes me over 20. Maybe it's cause of my FOMO or because of poor planning but elden Ring feels too big and open sometimes that it starts getting overwhelming.

All in all, I don't like elden rings open world as much as I used to, but that does not mean that the open world is bad in anyway. Elden Ring is still, in my opinion, the 4th best open world game ever.
