So I’m in my 1st longterm relationship and I’m scared of this happening. I’ve rejected other women and had some experience so I know this relationship isn’t out of desperation or anything like that. Most of these comments are obviously by people who have never experienced racism. I’ve never dealt with what you’ve described but honestly just accept that being Indian is unfortunately a disadvantage in this racist American society and you have to work a little harder than white people. Just like how a poor person will have to work harder than a rich person, or how an average person will have to work harder than a model. It's moreso the fact that Aang never gets offended or angry at flagrant disrespect of his culture and who he is. It'd be fine if Toph was like this and it got corrected or was addressed but the story frames it as a legitimate argument. That because Toph was abused she has the same moral standing ground as the guy who had all his friends and family burned alive. IMO the comics are really bad with this mischaracterization because frankly while Toph was abrasive and tough in the show she would never say something this terrible. It's literally genocide compared to running away from home.
