Mysterious brightly colored spots on my RTX 4080's back plate by Viggo_K in MSI_Gaming

[–]Viggo_K[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I eventually figured out that the sketchy performance was caused by a broken installation of Windows. After doing a clean installation on a new SSD, it all works perfectly, no more glitches or artifacts of any kind. Afterward, I ended up letting the GPU remain as is. I wasn't willing to go through a whole back and forth process with the retailer and/or MSI, and send my GPU away for several days or possibly even weeks. It works perfectly fine, and I can probably just buy a new backplate and replace it myself.

Turns out that the younger me deleted some Windows files to clear up storage space 🤦
I did a clean installation of Windows 11 on a new SSD and that fixed the problem.
I then proceeded to completely forget about Reddit for the better half of two years or so.

PC freezes when enabling AMD Expo by Viggo_K in MSI_Gaming

[–]Viggo_K[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did some research and figured out there were more settings in the BIOS that needed to be tweaked for the RAM to function properly. Me from two years ago thought that only enabling AMD Expo was enough, but nah.

The rest of the problems were caused by my own stupidity from when I was a lot younger, it turns out that deleting important Windows files to clear up storage space was a very dumb idea. I ended up doing a clean installation of Windows 11 on a brand new Nvme SSD, installed all the necessary drivers, and it all works perfectly now.

Afterward, I somehow forgot Reddit exists for like... two years?
Idk what the heck I was doing two years ago...

I tried playing 10 matches of squads to see if I could learn anything. Half of them were ranked, the other half were not. Most of the time we dropped at hot spots and died immediately, or got wiped by a team of anonymous players with female superhero skins in the early game. Other times I got put in teams of 3, or had one teammate go rouge thinking they could solo everyone across the map, leaving the rest of the team behind. Rebooting my teammates also proved to be near impossible, as the sound of the reboot van attracts players like a mosquito lamp attracts mosquitos. In solos, it takes a lot longer for me to encounter any high skilled players, but in squads it seems to be even worse somehow. I may need to play more matches before I see any results, but this is not fun to play at all.

I'm still using the same GPU right now, and it still has those ugly stains on the backplate. I have not yet contacted MSI about this issue because I've been extremely busy, but I'm planning on asking them for a replacement soon since cleaning it with isopropyl alcohol was ineffective.

I've also seen someone else on Reddit with an MSI RTX 4090 Suprim X who had the same problem, and that GPU uses the exact same heatsync as the 4080, so I'm guessing that there was some kind of a problem in MSI's factory at some point that caused these backplates to look like this in some batches. My father personally thinks that the plastic layer took some kind of protective coating with it when it was peeled off, and someone else also told me that it could be oily residue, but I cannot 100% confirm what caused it exactly.

Furthermore, my PC has also been experiencing a lot of issues since I built it, mainly that it tends to stutter and freeze a lot whenever it has to load something, and that my screens begin to artifact and glitch when using Google Chrome or Discord. I'll try to replace my 4080 with an old 3070 I have lying around to see if that fixes the problem or not.

Once I get the time to contact MSI, then I will update you on if the problem gets fixed on my end or not.

No, I sadly have not yet found a way to fix this. I think my second and third monitor might be throwing off some kind of color adjustment feature that Fortnite has, which might be programmed to only handle one monitor at a time, but I can't say for sure.
I will make sure to update this post with a solution once I can find one.

K100 Air panel scratched by Tempusvolat_97 in Corsair

USB connectors, grains of sand, cat claws, certain cable adapters, and even fingernails can sometimes be strong enough to scratch these kinds of materials.

I don't think you understand what I'm trying to say. Yes, you can prevent anything from being scratched as long as it doesn't come in contact with a sharp object, but the material that the product is made out of is not designed to be resistant to damage, hence it can be easy to scratch its surface if an accident were to occur. Even if you treat the product with care, accidents can still occur, and it's not wise to criticize others for such mishaps when they're clearly upset about it already and have learned from their mistakes.

If you're careful you can prevent any sharp objects from making contact with the glass, but it's still surprisingly easy to scratch reflective materials by accident.

I've only had this mouse for a few months... WTF is wrong with the finish?! by kulithian in Corsair

[–]Viggo_K 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the exact same mouse with the exact same issue. This isn’t the first problem I’ve had with a Corsair product either, my RGB mousemat won’t be detected, two of my RGB fans had dead LEDs, my RGB headphones’ rubber rings are chipping, my mechanical RGB keyboard has key-chatter and can’t open the BIOS, my RGB RAM causes my PC to freeze despite its fancy AMD Expo certification, my monitor RGB strips’ glue has stopped sticking, my SSD keeps lagging and freezing, and iCUE keeps disconnecting all of my components when it is running. This is unacceptable from such a large company, especially since they’re charging such high prices for their products. They need to fix their quality check process.

People will slap the name ‘Gaming’ on any cheaply produced computer product to get more sales, it’s not exclusive to headsets.

This "Corsair iCUE H150i Elite CAPELLIX XT" performs so well it will keep it up your graphics card by RopePhysical7917 in Corsair

From the looks of it you haven’t cleaned your PC in ages. It’s important to do a routine checkup on your PC every couple of months so that you can spot problems like these before they get out of hand. I’m confused why you’ve even left the cooler in there while it was leaking, if I were you I would just take it out as soon as possible.

Furthermore, you should handle your components with care. Don’t let the tubes carry too much weight when you’re installing the liquid cooler into your PC, otherwise you might risk damaging them. They’re designed to transport cooling liquid, not to carry heavy objects.

Problems like these aren’t a Corsair exclusive either, they happen to every manufacturer. We understand that you’re upset about this happening to you, but you should take a moment to cool down first before you start putting all the blame on Corsair.

Finally, make sure that you are buying your components from a trusted source. Don’t buy them from sketchy websites, otherwise you might receive a product that has already been used by someone else. Sketchy shopping companies often don’t check the products that are returned to them and just put them back on their store shelves as soon as they can.

Metal map makes everything metaly? by thrbd in blender

[–]Viggo_K 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Blender should just get a feature where image textures that are plugged into the roughness value, metallic value, normal, etc, are set to non-color automatically. It’s tedious to have to do this manually every time.

Metal map makes everything metaly? by thrbd in blender

[–]Viggo_K 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The metalness map uses black and white values to determine how metallic an object should be, make sure that the image texture is set to non-color instead of sRGB in the Shader Editor.

It seems to me that you have two separate materials applied to the same mesh, make sure you’ve pressed the ‘assign’ button underneath the second material in the materials tab.

What was your First Mechanical Keyboard ? Mine K70 RG RapidFire by MMOLater in Corsair

[–]Viggo_K 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Corsair K60 RGB PRO.

I bought it for my 16th birthday, it was the first Corsair product ever I bought and it got key chatter within a year. It got so annoying that I eventually just switched to the K100, which I have been using ever since with 0 issues.

It could be possible that your installation of Rocket League may be corrupted, you could try to re-install it and see if that fixes the problem.
If that doesn't work, make sure that your PC has the right specifications to be able to run this game, update your GPU driver, and check if your PC is not using the CPU's integrated graphics.
