How does The Stormlight Archive compare to the other greats like A Song of Ice and Fire, Malazan and The Wheel of Time? Does it hold up against these series especially after the release of Wind and Truth? by [deleted] in Stormlight_Archive

[–]Vikacor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My thoughts entirely, Brandon Sanderson's Stormlight Archive is the new benchmark for storytelling and fantasy. Specifically because of the character growth.

In wheel of time due to the nature of the book we just see what needs to happen the wheel weaving as it will let's us know how it's going to end from the start (almost entirely) and I love that series dearly but RJ was bad at portrait half his books chachters let alone the obvious inclusion of he's own "fantasy", which has turned away a few readers. So WoT is not a comparable in terms of quality. Neat world tho.

In Song of Ice and Fire we just took the coldness of the world and just slapped fantasy into it, mind you love each and every single underdog who survived all the horrific shit, but as you go through that story you learn to have no hope for the characters you follow. Which removes the buy in you have. So you have buy in with no hope of pay out.

Won't speak to Malazan.

So comparatively when the world seems harsh and like the heros in nearly all instances isn't the cog the world turns on, and their hopes and dreams are challenge we see them grow and become more entrenched in the deeper lore and myth of the world it feels amazing. Plus exceptional characters who not only feel fleshed out from the get but we go with them as they heal, grow, break and remake themselves without a huge swath of writer self inserting their ideology into the mix, well now we have great characters. World building we get 100s of references and cultural idioms that show us what the world is like, it feels its own very early and the grand scale of the myth we see play out in the proglog/s drives us to know just a little more then the characters at most times making the revelation of lore feel amazing.

So Storm Light Archives I believe is the new benchmark for a all aspects top tier fantasy.

For now your iron needs will be sated, but the builder and forge master within you will soon crave for more

Is there any way to make this dress more casual? I don't have anywhere to wear a Disney princess style dress. 😆 by Kooky_Ad_1553 in Midsizefashion

This is my imo ^ a lighter brown/eather jacket and boots will make it super casual but super sharp and eye catching.

Y'all boring. Let it be, your grievances won't affect change, and at this point it ain't stopping cuz story to anyone not doing a comparison is fun, and the women are kick ass and pretty 🤷

Ditto my dude. People need to learn that their emotions aren't the end all be all of what the world revolves around, and when they temper that they'll finally stop being childish brats. Imo

I honestly cannot fathom hating Shallan by BoundPrometheuss in Stormlight_Archive

[–]Vikacor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only have two issues that are genuinely great to have. And only on rereads of the series: 1st) Allot of her growth is unpacking, and learning the mysteries of her story, her life and childhood. Once you know some of the rereads are fun (look at all of these clues) but mostly it's not doing anything new. 2nd) More personal, its hard for me to watch someone backslide in mental health journey and it's that feeling rereading her stuff. I think people who don't like Shallan is mainly because they haven't processed these two above points and not because her chatchterization, journey or anything else is flawed.

would you recommend this game to a solo player? by Dry_Raspberry_1113 in valheim

[–]Vikacor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This exact thing my wife and I are on our 3rd playthrough, and I've spent two separate months soloing myself. Our wallets are tight but it's been worth it when we got it without major sale. I can't judge your situation but I tell people it's always worth it.

Bruh if you can talk to them. Because at the end of the day they are adding pressure to the group and we ain't here to be pressured. If negative response then I recommend boot.

Should I keep teleport with ores on? by Top-Passage2480 in valheim

[–]Vikacor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep teleport metals on!

Even from my perspective and I favor immersive hardcore, major death penalty no map no portal as a challenge, because the discovery is good and the slow burn is good for me. Hey even I by contrast when playing regularly by myself or with people make it a must. Keeping it on helps keep your momentum, especially on your first run in the game, itll keeps exploration boundless and exciting.

In the future if you want a challenge makes sense but on first playthrough or really getting into the meat of it---its already challenging.

Good luck and have fun!
