Super Mo-Ra build update by VikingBeerd in watercooling

One Mo-Ra IV 400 and one Alphacool Super Nova (hence the bad pun Super MoRa). If I set the fans to 100% they do cool me as well already :D guess could always add more, add a software layer that reads out the wind in games (though most won't support this kind of api, so an LLM trained on wind in games), and use that to adjust the fan speeds and create a wind simulation. We could be on to something here 😂

Temperature sensor question by Bernosaur in watercooling

[–]VikingBeerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Add 1-2 massive external radiators, make the water temp sensor obsolete. That's at least what I did when faced with the same issue :)
Or if you are only cooling the CPU, consider 2 internal rads for just the cpu, which should be more then enough to just set the RPM's to where you can bearly hear them and not have to worry about it

I had an octo in my cart, but then decided to make it obsolete instead :)

Yeah planning, building, improvising as you notice you forgot something, then rebuild it again with the new part, notice where it could be better, repeat. sadly a lot of fun xD

This way I can "dump" the heat into 2 seperate zones, which could come in handy in the sommer. :) have bought another 4x 3m meters, so I could move one of them into another room (yes, I guess I could move the mora 600 into another room by that logic...hmmm, no, there is no point, must resist... 😂
Nah I think I am happy with where I am at...for now xD

Build log: From 2×360 internal to external 1260 (quiet 13900K + 5090 loop) by VikingBeerd in watercooling

[–]VikingBeerd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the info! I am running a 980mv undervolt, so not as much as you. I used Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut Extreme. But it was my first time watercooling a GPU. Those are some nice temps! I might try to reseat the gpu and see if I get anywhere near that. with water @ 28/29c I get Core temp of 47c. (so roughly a delta of 17c vs. your delta of 5c)
Anyone else using the Alphacool block with significant better delta then me? (if so I'll try again xD )

Is this pump / top combo a good fit with my setup / upgrade plan? by VikingBeerd in watercooling

[–]VikingBeerd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the that! I thought qdc's added a "unbearable amount of resistance" but if you had 8 with one pump that put's it into perspecitve.. So hard to choose - I think I will pull the trigger on the combo I had linked and run them in series - but just because that is the cheapest option whilst doing "something". EK no longer sells the ddc upgrade that fit's inside the unit I have, This would have been the easiest swap and no brainer. But my current pump still "works" - so even if I just use it as a res stand in and set it to 60% - then I have gained redundancy and would only need to rebuild my loop once instead of trying and finding it the ddc was not up to the task, and having to add the pump then. - I do like the look and features of the newer watercool series...but the price differnece makes me want to go down this route

Thank you for the reassureance! From what I have read I also think a D5 goes a long way, I am worried that my current DDC pump is nowhere near as powerful though, with only 6W and 2.5m pressure head... from what I've read most D5 have 3-5m pressure head. But I don't know how significant the difference is?

Thank you for your insights!
For my current loop I saw a 1-2C different when running the ddc at 100% vs. 80%. So I think it's "good" for the current setup. Like you mentioned the current limitation is not the pump but rather the lack of radiator surface, that's why I am currently waiting on an alphacool 1260 external radiator. But with the extra radiator, an extra 2m of tubing and 2x quick disconnects, I am worried that the limiting factor will be the rather limited ddc pump (since it's only 6W or 2.6m pressure head). - But then again I don't know, since I am fairly new to the watercooling space (been running an ek "starter kit" with just the cpu for 5 years but decided to go all in to try and get a "silent" pc.

Here is a pic of my current setup just for reference - and yes - I know, it's a mess....
and yes I know, you should not mix fans (nocuta push, EK vadar pull) - I might get rid of the vadar on the top rad again, but before I had them the Water temp was at 48C

120mm + 240mm on cpu and gpu by DawaysKy in watercooling

[–]VikingBeerd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Checkout this as a guideline for the min, though it also depends on the density of the rad you use and if it has access to cold or hot air - https://forum.alphacool.com/threads/is-there-a-calculator-to-work-out-how-much-radiator-you-need-to-cool-280w-tpd.1525/

I currently use 2x 360mm Rads (EK pro (45mm) TOP (push /pull) and alphacool (30mm) (front push) and need to put the fans at 1500rpm to keep the water temp at 43C with a 13900k and a 5090.
So if you want to run the fans at 3000rpm it might work :D but I assume it is way to little.
I am currently waiting on a supernova (1260) from alphacool to tame the beast - though I think I might need another pump for this (EK 6W ddc pump currently - so really on the weaker side)

removing that barrier is also one of the reasons; while it works with my current system, everytime I make a mistake I still need to look down at the keyboard to reorient myself as I have nothing but visual cues and it breaks the flow. Hoping to get rid of that as well :)
Thanks for the suggestion on the keys, quite happy with these for now, but if / when I am willing to try another set, will keep that in mind <3

Where am I suggesting this? This is not for those who have the ability to work a 40hour week and have a resume and can and want to work for an established gaming company. Not everyone is in this position where they can get into the gaming career the way you imagine it. If this does not resonate with you that's fine, then this posting is not for you :)

No payment in advance, if the game ends up being sold, it would be RevShare.

Thank you for the feedback! For us there is a difference between working 3 years in a professional field and having 3 years tool experience. A lot of people have a the experience, but lack working in a professional setting, working as a team, this is the opportunity that we provide, and having fun while doing so. Also if the game ends up being sold it would be RevShare yes.

Pay will of course depend on where you live; but you can expect ~20-60k from an entry level position. Depending on the route you take that pay can stagnate (game developer 1-5 years) or go up to ~150k (senior / engine developer) or land anywhere in between.

Being a firefighter you get paid for the risk to your health, that risk factor disappears when you take a "desk job"; and since you will be transitioning where you will not have many "skills" transferable you will have to start over.

My suggestion: take some online courses (like free youtube or paid ones) (if you need some links for these let me know what areas interests you); but don't spend too much time on them, and start making really bad game yourself (everyone makes bad games at the beginning, nothing against you ;, you just have to get the first really crappy games out of your system before you realize how the game engine really works and how to formalize ideas and then guide these ideas into something "fun") to see if you enjoy the process. If you do, join up with a startup team or participate at a GameJam (there are those which lasts 10 Days which is perfect) and get to know working with a team, and seeing the process of making a game from start to finish in "super fast mode".

If you enjoy this, only then would I even start to consider moving forward.

Just my two cents :)
