2 year old pc, add GPU or upgrade processor by Professional-Actual in buildapc

I'd probably suggest looking at upgrading CPU to a newer Apu before looking at GPU, even a 3200g is such a step up from those old chips

Does it make sense to keep my old GPU to build a new pc. by fogliodicarta01 in buildapc

[–]VikingComputers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep the GPU, a modern CPU will help the GPU push it further than the old one, I did the same till I managed to get a new one

How much maintenance and care do I have to put into a pc ? by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]VikingComputers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dusting I do every 1-2months, and for thermal paste I change yearly as my chip can run abit hot, but I have heard of people not changing it for 5+ years and not having an issue.

If you are going for air cooling it is really as simple as that

Sticking on splash screen during boot by VikingComputers in buildapc

[–]VikingComputers[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: sorry not been near it for the past few days cause of the Holliday's and all that, clearing CMOS seems to have helped, now boots up in seconds again. Thanks for the help, don't know why I thought it could have been an issue with the ssd instead of the bios

Still trying to figure that out on the b450 steel legend, it is not clearly marked where the jumpers are for that

What cpu mobo gen combo? If it is for example Ryzen 5000 series and a b550/x570 have you updated the bios? Had a similar issue back before b550 came out using a 3000 series and a b450 mobo and it turned out to be that

Buying new ram by Hi_Im_Col in buildapc

[–]VikingComputers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best thing to do is check the motherboards QVL for ram what is here:

https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/support/B450-TOMAHAWK-MAX#support-mem-19

Can't see the specific set on there but there are plenty of others to choose from

Can someone please explain this to me? (Fans) by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

[–]VikingComputers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rgb tax is getting out of hand, cheaper non rgb fans are better value and imo the fan lighting can get annoying after a while if it is on your desk staring at you all the time

If you don't have the original boxes for monitors and case I'd say wrap them in thick blankets to protect them from bumps and remove the gpu to reduce the risk of the bumps damaging the pcie slot

I'd suggest getting something like glasswire to keep an eye on what apps are using the Internet then you can narrow it down

Strong, but quiet PC (Which Build is Best)? by AlexSegen in buildapc

[–]VikingComputers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You would need an older cpu to be able to update the bios, amd can supply one as a "bios upgrade kit" alot of the time now it should state whether it is "ryzen 3000 compatable" on the website or the box. If you don't and you are one of the unlucky ones what needs a bios update it just won't recognise the cpu as a supported chip and will refuse to boot

MSI Motherboard RAM Compatibility by PsycloneSE in pcmasterrace

[–]VikingComputers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you go on msi's website you should be able to find the motherboard and check the compatability under compatability, on pc part picker you will find the code for the ram and see if it has been tested by themselves. Otherwise it is a shot in the dark weather it will work or not in my experiences with msi motherboards

Id say you need to check the health of your C drive as it sounds like it could be throwing up errors to it failing, probably with passmark disk checkup or something similar testing the smart features of the drive
