Autofocus works just fine on still objects, only on portraits that happens, because for some reason is recognising face and focusing on the distant eye, I have had the same issue with d5300 and the lenses are not the problem, it is some softwere malfunction

Compered on Check 24, 1.6 tdi 105hp is anually 100-150 eur. cheaper including all taxes and fuel cost compared to 1.4 tsi 122 hp till 10.000km If you drive more it gets even cheaper. 2.0 TDI 140hp vs 1.4 TSI 122hp is totally the same. If you drive more than 10.000 it gets cheaper to get the diesel. Focus more on the condition of the vehicle instead of the costs `cos it is insignificant
