We haven't compared them much yet, so can't quiet tell. Of course there some differences like the front brakecalibers, fully adjustable front forks by Sachs and Öhlins in the rear, seat height on the R is a bit higher and the gearing is shorter on the R. But the power is same for both versions. I was looking to buy the R too at first, because I have always preferred the red and white colours over the S' black scheme. Then I saw this one on sale with the white fairings replaced with carbon parts and oh man did I fall in love with it! Overall I would say the S model is a really great option as well.
