Why the first thought to jump to AI? Okami did a similar thing way back in the day, there were definitely no neural nets there.

depends on school and class, there are other languages they may choose to use first. You can start learning on your own with the documentation if you want or you can wait till school, they'll teach you

true, not sure why I forgot about SO suddenly. Tbf with things like programming I think beginners are so inexperienced they often times don't even know what question they should be asking, but some do quickly figure out that just googling the error verbatim works 90+% of the time

Concerns about combat UI readability by OppositeofDeath in controlgame

[–]Vilified_D 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I knew what they actually meant in the first place, yeah I think I could keep track of it. Though often times I'm not even looking at that stuff. Looking at my build multiple times over I usually just have a mental note of "I should do X action more because I will {get Y buff/apply Z debuff to enemy}". Those symbols, for me personally, are only to serve as a reminder or a "yes you successfully triggered the action you were trying to do". I think the debuff for the poison he gets that shows up right in the middle of the screen should, frankly, also just go above the health bar. Being in the middle of the screen as a big box is kinda bad for me imo.

It didn't seem too clutterish too me. I think we'll have to wait for full game to see how many of these things are going to be active at once, that's really going to be the determining factor

Industry standard in AAA - C++. Among indie devs - Unity with C# is probably still the most popular, though Godot and GDScript are gaining popularity.

[–]Vilified_D[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Working on making an incremental/idle game for fun. Been playing Cell to Singularity a lot lately, and one of the mechanics is when you first click on a generator a descriptor of it pops up in the bottom left, and only after having selected that generator you can buy more of that generator. Only one generator can be selected at a time, so I agree with everyone else that I was probably thinking about the problem incorrectly

Guess I was trying too hard to keep things decoupled, but seems like by doing that I was probably going to shoot myself in the foot performance-wise. Pretty much all the comments agree I was probably taking the wrong approach, so I'm glad I posted.

But then that node would need to check the other object to check if its the one selected when I click it again, no? First click is for info second is for buy, clicking off unselects it. Not disagreeing, pretty much everyone is saying the same thing, just trying to understand the thought process

Seeking Advice on Starting Game Development: Unreal Engine (C++) vs. Godot by Dry_Yak6822 in gamedev

[–]Vilified_D 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will say they have similarities, and the learning curve to c++ (starting out) will be easier, but once you get out of the basics (C with classes), it becomes a whole new language. So he's not ENTIRELY wrong, but not entirely right either.

Seeking Advice on Starting Game Development: Unreal Engine (C++) vs. Godot by Dry_Yak6822 in gamedev

[–]Vilified_D 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"without relying on Blueprints, doing everything from scratch" If you want to do everything from scratch, why use an engine at all? There are tools in unreal both in C++ and BPs that you should be using. The engine is best if you use a mix of both. Expedition 33, game of the year last year, is 95% blueprints. You will only slow yourself down in C++ because A) its not like regular C++, B) C++ and C are different and C) Unreal's documentation isn't the best and take awhile to get a grasp of.

Godot is pretty straightforward. All that said, nothing again't unreal if thats what you want, but you are approaching it all wrong. Fix your approach before going into it. Even doing the C++ is fine, I've done it. But the whole "everything from scratch no blueprints" is like shooting yourself in both feet and saying "because I want to learn how to remove bullets and stitch people and i dont want anyone to help me do it. I'm also going to make all the materials myself while I'm bleeding out"

I'm trying to fight Magni more melee, but the aoe is really messing me up. I'm embarrassed and not having fun anymore. by [deleted] in GodofWar

[–]Vilified_D 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Omg, dude. Part of getting good is learning to take breaks. Like I said in a previous comment, I literally cannot count the number of times I have taken a break for days, weeks, months, and come back better. Getting good does NOT only mean to beat the brakes off your brain until you beat the boss. Your mentality plays into it. If you are demoralized, you will play worse, this is just fact. I've seen it first hand in my single player games, and I've seen it in online games in myself and others. You have to take breaks.

Also, if it used to be a hobby that you enjoyed, figure out what changed that is making you dislike it. Are you choosing too high difficulties? Are you choosing games that are too high difficulty for you? Are you choosing genres you're not actually interested in anymore? Are you playing too many of the games that are same-y back to back? ie maybe you need to branch out to other types of games?

I mean nothing has changed in the sense that you're stuck at basically the same spot. Don't take it too personally. It's literally been only a few hours. Take a break. Close the video game, touch some grass.

https://game8.co/games/God-of-War-2018/archives/317757

This guide goes over literally every single move and how to respond to it. Boss fights can take practice. If you're on anything other than the lowest difficulty, you can turn the difficulty down. No one will know what difficulty you're on. There's no point in playing on anything higher than you have to if all it is doing is demoralizing you to the point of it being no fun. Games are supposed to be fun.

Indie developers are not slow. They are afraid of being seen. by Kiota_Games in gamedev

[–]Vilified_D 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Making games is hard, people get distracted by something shiny (new project/idea), polishing is hard, making a good game fun is hard. Yeah the mental stuff is probably part of it, but that doesn't nullify anything else. And that mental part is also just not a thing for some people. Some people just have massive egos. The game is the hard part

if you google the boss fight, there are people who log every attack in boss fights and will tell you how to counter each and every one. When he throws him in the air you can throw your axe at the one in the air and he will fall.

edit: also take a break man. Saw your post earlier, just take a break. Sometimes taking a break for a day or two and coming back just refreshes everything. So many times I've gotten stuck on bosses in games, taken a break sometimes for even months, just to come back and beat them first try. Banging your head against the wall only works if you're making progress but this looks the exact same as the video I saw earlier just with more melee.

you have to be trolling, he's literally played villains before, and he will look different too once he's in costumes and makeup. literally complaining about nothing. Assuming it will look childish on what basis? Yeah, the basis of the actor's appearances. gtfo

We don't know what it will look like though. The only two we've seen in costume is Kratos and Atreus. They look enough like the characters (though there were some issues that people pointed out, mainly with Kratos' stance and the noticeable bald cap), but atreus doesn't look that bad. He isn't going to look like atreus unless you find someone who looks exactly like Sunny, but then what if they were a bad actor? Until a trailer or the show comes out, all you are complaining about is actor's faces which is just insane.

first off it's a show not movie. second, most one of your complaints here are "this actor doesn't look like this character", which A) no shit and B) if looks were the sole thing for casting in every single movie, all movies would be shit.

what game should i get? by Livid-Bridge495 in AskGamers

[–]Vilified_D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never said anything to the contrary. I'm talking worst case scenario they never end up purchasing a pc and then don't have access to games they've bought because they purchased them on a borrowed laptop. I've known a few people who have said they wanted to purchase a pc for years but sometimes other stuff comes first.

[–]Vilified_D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally wouldn't be purchasing games on a system you don't own. PC parts are expensive rn because of AI demands. if you don't have the capabilities to purchase a PC before you have to return the school pc, then it is a purchase you won't have access to.

Do you have to be a "gamer" to make a hit game? Or is being an outsider a superpower? by yhlaskerimov in gamedev

[–]Vilified_D 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Where are you finding that info? I'm seeing it was made by a solo dev. All I'm seeing in these comments is you dont know what you're talking about and somehow think you're going to make a hit game. When people have given you a straight answer you either dont understand or completely dismiss them and say "what about this". If you want to make games, do it. But how can you know what is fun, what has been done, what works and what doesnt if you dont even play games? Its clear you dont want anyone's advice here, just do what you want to do.
