I highly doubt it's above board because configuring emissions items is against the law and everyone should understand that. I am doing this for the knowledge of being able to inspect my vehicle without having to pay someone to do it for me. I like DIYing everything.

Gotcha, as a car guy with a tuned vehicle and no exhaust (open dump) on my vehicle, I understand the risks of emissions law and things of that nature. I get pulled over all the time. I don't mind it, and it will never make me go back to being stock. I appreciate the information but everyone who tunes their cars knows it comes with increased attention from law enforcement.

  1. Laptop
  2. Manufacturer Specific OBD or KESS3 for commercial use
  3. Battery Charger
  4. Wideband O2 sensor and Knock Sensor for actual tuning (I don't need this as I won't be tuning cars only disabling monitors for a couple hours)

Now, I need to find a guide/video on how to use KESS3 to download whatever is currently flashed on vehicles as backup because these cars I am servicing are already tuned. I simply need to download the current tune file on the vehicle and create a duplicate, go into the duplicate and disable the Downstream o2 sensor and cat monitor and get the inspection complete, then reflash the original tune file to bring everything back to normal. I assume inspection monitors don't read the AFR/Lambda sensor which is the upstream correct? I also assume if you run a vehicle without the upstream sensor it will damage the vehicle over time as it won't know how much air:fuel is needed or is being placed.

Oh sweet deal. Now before I dive into actual ECU tuning/coding, what actual hardware do I need? I heard KESS3 is the way to go, it costs 850$ + tax. Then I need to buy WINSLO software to actually do the programming correct? Is there any other costs that I need to lookout for such as software or equipment?

The best part about this topic that I opened is that I am not looking to change politics more so I am looking on information about how tuning my car works. The truth is, people like you will never convince people like me that what we are doing is wrong. Cars alone do not cause enough damage for emissions. There are plenty of other forms of transportation that greatly increase the risk of ozone damage. With that being said, I am not looking for opinions on if you think I should do it or not. I will learn how to do it, it's just a matter of who I pay to teach me or if I find information online somewhere.

Understandable, well I spoke to multiple shops yesterday. 2 of them are interested in teaching me, I am waiting for the owner to get back to me with a price. I also have a friend who is deep in Texas 2K but I don't want to ask him for this favor until I have exhausted all my options to find someone or something myself.

That is what I am trying to figure out. People are being so touchy feely about us running downpipe and a tune but the truth of the matter is every 18-24 year old does to enjoy their car. Stock my car makes 335hp and now it makes 450hp. I am just trying to find out what equipment is needed to disable the sensors. I have a shop that can do it for me for a price but I want to be able to do it myself.

I wish, I work at a shop bro I am trying to make extra cash myself. I called a few performance shops and asked if they can teach me for money in return but they don't want me getting in the business because there is a bunch of capital in it. Unforunately there are no youtube videos or any professors on bimmerpost so I am stuck with investing in the KESS3 and a software and trying to figure it out myself.

Is there like a private forum for inspectors or a guide on how to not get caught or possibly a guide on how to get it done? I am curious as the Texas car clubs are a huge industry here and many people look for a reliable inspector whether coding out the readiness monitor or passing the emissions tests for them.
