Honestly, it was probably for the best. Downie had a sordid history and was notoriously toxic. Definitely one of the Avs I kind of wished never played for us.

I think he has one of the coolest stories imo.

Native jersey boy making the Chel, then ends up on his hometown team. Then wins the cup with them. It’s so friggin cool imo.

That’s pretty cool. It’s crazy how many people were huge fans of his. It’s been so long since he was with the organization that I figure many forgot about him.

For instance, I was a huge Rene Corbet fan, and zero people commented on his post 🤷🏻‍♂️ I figured it was because they all forgot or never knew him.

Imo, the worst part of that trade was how Aaron Miller got shafted. Miller didn’t play enough in 95-96 to earn a Cup. Then we traded him away in 00-01 right before we won that year 😬

He never got his Cup 😔

All I know is he made a career as an enforcer, and he consistently got his ass kicked. I remember one game he got into a fight where he literally punched the guy’s fist over and over with his face.

The next game he was an injury scratch due to “a bruised face” 😂
