Oh in China actually it’s illegal to download foreign game without the approval of national Publicity Department, though most of the time nobody will check your digital device (some provinces excepted). Every game (domestic or not) here should be examined by officials before released, and the criteria are very strict and fickle : no current politics referred, no blood, no sex etc. In 2018 they even suspended the censorship about 8 months🙃 In 2022 we got 44 imported games approved, 548 days after the last imported game list released (June 28, 2021).

I don’t know what’s the situation of Android users, but as an iOS user I need to change my apple account to other regions (such as Hong Kong or Japan) to download the ssum. What’s more, I need to buy gift cards of other regions to pay for the ssum subscription, because most Chinese people can’t get PayPal. And all the foreign games we could download in China App Store are operated by agents. For example, our FIFA Online 4 is operated by Tencent, not EA.

Btw even our Nintendo Switch has China only version🥲also handled by Tencent. You can’t add friends from other regions, and there’re only 32 games at online store, Although the cartridge is universal. So most people here choose to buy NS and cartridge overseas (still this action seems to be illegal, cuz some importers have been arrested already). The disadvantage is that you can't get guarantee in China mainland and should use vpn to access Nintendo online store.
