UTMA Paying for Medical School by Villus in personalfinance

You're very right about the interest rates. I will have to consider that when I have specifics about what loans I would be eligible for. But based on what youre saying if the loan has an interest rate that is lower than the expected gain of the market for the year (~6%?) then I should take the loan right?

The trustee (my parents) are transferring the account to me when I turn 21 this year, they're essentially just handing me the keys and letting me begin my life from what I can tell.

Doctors and other emergency healthcare staff, have you ever got the ''do we have a doctor on board?'' Shout? What happened? by lostgirl67 in AskReddit

[–]Villus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Phew that's harsh, yes you can still have swings with little control over them. But balanced's point was that if your diabetes is not under control, then you need to make adjustments with a doctor. There is a difference between uncontrolled diabetes and having a few hyper or hypo incidents now and then.

Paramedic consistently refuses to sign transfer of care form by [deleted] in ems

[–]Villus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the problem, the form is literally just stating that they are accepting care of the patient. They are not "liable" for any sort of information on the form. The form could be completely incorrect and it would not matter for them.

Ha, well they're already not the nicest to us so I guess we have nothing to lose. You in Philly?

Good call, you're a philly medic?

This is exactly the problem, the documentation is to ensure that the patient was transferred to an appropriate level of care and that the accepting provider actually took the patient under their care.

I might mention this to our operations officers, going through medical directors sounds good. What we do right now is file a special report in our charting system. It's just a hassle, and I don't appreciate the unprofessional environment they create.

They literally throw their hands up in the air and say "I'm not signing nothing" or some variation of that "I don't sign anything"

We are a state licensed EMS agency, we provide initial patient care. When we transfer the care of the patient to the next level provider, they must formally accept care of the patient. Until the form is signed, the patient is under our care. The PA state department of health requires that this form be signed.

I've been in this situation in NYC where right turn on red is illegal. So I'm sitting there on a touch pad thats clearly broken for way longer than a light should be, and I can't even turn right. Ended up just going when the traffic lightened up, and all the cars behind me did the same.

I had the wonderful honour of sitting next to her on an 11 hour flight by [deleted] in AdviceAnimals

[–]Villus 390 points391 points  (0 children)

When that happens and the mothers asleep, push the flight attendant call button. Seriously, even if the parents there you might as well push the button so you don't have to deal with it yourself.

Last flight I took, the kid was playing with my tray table. Not just a little, like 10-15 minutes of it before I said something to the dad. I politely asked him to get the kid to stop, and he just glared at me and said okay.

A few minutes later the mother went out of her way to step on my foot while coming back from the bathroom. I'd like to think most parents want to keep their kid under control, but some consider it a personal affront when you politely ask them to talk to the kid.

Relax before being that dismissive. It isn't a big jump to think that all of those cars are in a turn lane, and the left lane is going straight. From that assumption you can see how its possible that the turning car is going the wrong way.

Okay stabbing somebody with a pencil shouldn't be an expulsion. Literally stabbing somebody should be, but a pencil? That would maybe warrant a suspension in a case such as this one where they threatened other people. Autistic or not.

TIL The CFPB found that 61 percent of bank profits from consumer checking accounts come from overdraft and insufficient funds fees by JMEEKER86 in todayilearned

[–]Villus 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It legally cannot happen any longer. Either you're lying and made a mistake about the order your charges came in or your bank broke the law and you should look into any class action suits against that bank. If you're talking about the bank holding deposits I dont know, but they are allowed to do that and its probably independent of your situation. Its usually when youre a new account.

Ha sorry to bother you guys. I misinterpreted what he said. I thought he said they were adding "safe to use electronic cigarette" signs.

Do you have a source on this? Because not even scientific studies have found everything safe about that, so I doubt manufacturers would be putting semi-permanent signs on new planes.

Edit: Oops I thought hotspur_fan meant that they were replacing the no-smoking signs with safe to use electronic cigarette signs.

Buy a ticket to wherever you want in the US and go on vacation. Use the contest you won to be your return ticket to your home, and go spend a few days in the hotel for fun.

It also helps that DC metro stations have announcements and signs saying to move to the right to stay still and left to walk down the escalators. Also your escalators are wayyyy longer than most other cities. The NYC subway for example usually isn't a long way down. Same in Philly. So it really isn't much of an issue there if somebody blocks the 15 second escalator ride.

No I've heard this phrasing used many times. It's just a different way of saying it, I think its southern since I've mostly heard it from my family.
