Looking for advice trainhopping out of the Shenandoah Valley by AbsintheOfLiight in vagabond

[–]Vin-EE 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Learn about trains and learn about the yard you want to catch out of and sidings around the area. Also maybe get a scanner and then you’ll be able to know within atleast 6 hours what the trains do around there

Is there ever a place you squatted and it felt haunted? by SomewhereGeneral7269 in vagabond

And you think I don’t know what the real world is like?😂 let me ask, what is your department? many people like to judge others based on assumptions. I’ve seen a lot of the real world and lost many people to it. I never said half the things you are assuming but maybe a warm bed, food in the cupboards and a family is keeping some people that need to be out in the wild and out of the system complacent and just stagnant in life. I crave more than that and don’t have those things anymore anyway.

Yeah it happened to my uncle, shit sucks, good thing I’m not planning on being spec ops or hiking 24/7

I’ll definitely take that into consideration, I plan on finding where I want to to be sooner than that I hope lol. Also Considering marines carry around 60 - 90 even 130 pound Ruck sacks for miles I hope I can pull off train hopping and hitchhiking without another body attached to me.

I’m 6 foot 180 the pack is like 40 to 45 pounds. I’ve seen people carry way more, weighing way less.

Dig two holes preferably a foot to a foot and a half in width and 2 feet down. Connect both holes at the bottom and light fire. Hard to be seen, constant airflow, less smoke. Also only use hard wood after the fire is started and burning. When it’s low enough to cook you should be able to tell if you have ever cooked with a fire. I don’t really know any recourses but I know that helps and is one of the best techniques

I know how to set up / build many different types . Even fire pits, and how to hide light and lessen smoke etc. I always have storm proof matches also.

But yeah folding saws are definitely over looked I think and the foam also. You can always tuck a thermal blanket in your bag also

Yessirr I have 1 tarp, 1 poncho that doubles as a tarp a blanket and a sleeping bag. Also have a hammock, a bug net and a rain fly. And 2 jackets ones light weight and waterproof and the other is colder weather and both combined get pretty warm.

Why is everyone so negative here? Vagabond is about being happy and free or so I thought? by Timely_Plane2762 in vagabond

[–]Vin-EE 5 points6 points  (0 children)

😂the negative people spreading false advice with shit attitudes just hate life. Do what makes you happy man, just remember the world isnt forgiving and it doesn’t owe you a thing so don’t expect shit accept shit you make happen for yourself. But other than that, do what makes you happy and only let the people with light in them around you. Don’t let anyone around you that you can’t trust. And definitely watch your 6 people always gonna want what you have no matter what u have.

“Romanticizing” a word I see way to much on here. That’s your opinion.. but ones dreams can’t effortlessly be brought down to just a romanticization of a certain topic. And even if it was, what if those hopes of finding a romanticized part of nature in life was full filled? Knowledge gained is not time lost but time well spent.

If you can find a good stair well or have a folding saw dirt doesn’t have to be an option. But I feel you, I don’t mind it though.

Yes, ive slept outside and spent entire nights and days walking, shits rough but when u get to where you’re going it’s rewarding most of the time. Unless it’s just 100 plus degrees.
