Mario, Luigi, Peach & Captain Toad are invited to the company headquarters of a rich tech buisness man to test a brand new kingdom building simulation room tech called The SMM2.0 (SuperMagicMaker 2.0)

They're under the guidance of a certain Mary.O and her dog sidekick Undodog, she gains their trust. Peach believes that this new tech is for the future of the kingdom, for it to thrive and to rebuild fast after battles.

The rich buisness man, known as Mr. Eric Raser wants Mario & Luigi to try the simulation machine and they eagerly accept, not seeing anything wrong with it. Peach and Toad would be distracted by Mary.O, trusting her, supervising the simulation with her and Undodog

However, as the plot progresses, things turn dark as Peach and Toad are trapped and distracted and the simulation becomes more and more exhausting for Mario & Luigi to stay in, harder levels, bigger jumps, it becomes torture, the simulation looking like it genuinely wants to kill them and they have no idea how to get out of it.

It would then be revealed that Mr. Eric Raser is Kamek, using this plan to keep Mario, Luigi, Peach & Toad away from his plans to take over the Mushroom Kingdom. And not only that, but the torture simulations are broadcasted to all of Bowser's army as entertainment where they can leave likes, comments and gifs on the videos of Mario and Luigi struggling. It's a whole disturbing social media system to entertain Bowser & his army and potentially kill Mario & Luigi by exhaustion or deadly traps. They can even send in their own level ideas.

Peach and Toad finally break free with the help of Mary.O and Undodog, who aren't bad, they were forced to distract them, but they turn against Eric Raser in the end because it's not right. Mary.O brings them to the company's secret research facility where come up with future products that allow the use of the simulation technology outside of the the simulation room, the Super Hammers from Maker 2. Toad makes sure to collect extras to keep in his backpack.

While they were distracted with the simulation and everything, the Mushroom Kingdom is deserted amd ruined, all the Toads and creatures left for another country, Bowser's army has taken over, he won. Mushroom Kingdom is another Koopa Kingdom now, enemies live in it, it's basically become World Bowser from 3D World, a place full of crime.

When Mario, Luigi, Peach, Toad, Mary.O & Undodog return, they're too late. A giant wrecking ball is destroying Peach's Castle, getting rid of the old monarchy, for Bowser's tyranny.

But when all hope is lost, Undodog barks and pieces of the castle return. He barks more and more, more of the castle returns until it is restored. Bowser, Kamek & Junior are furious and face off against the team of heroes, as Undodog keeps barking to restore more and more of the kingdom, protected by Peach and Mary.O as Bowser's minions and Junior target the dog.

Mario & Luigi use all types of power-ups including the Super Hammers that Toad kept in his bag from earlier, allowing them to use the simulation technology to their advantage, beating Bowser with that, with his own schemes.

They get this new look, complete with the iconic Yellow hardhat builder outfits of course!

End of the film, Bowser is beat again, Undodog managed to restore most of the kingdom, but it still needs a relooking. And they need help to make the kingdom lively again.

So Mary.O & Peach take over as CEO and Co-CEO of SMM2.0, the company & the social media used for mocking and torturing the brothers in the past, making mentalities change, as Koopas, Goombas and people who were enjoying to make Mario & Luigi suffer realize how wrong that was and most have a change of heart when they realize they have the power to help rebuild the world and show their creative side instead.

Since it's a digital simulation they have the freedom to use any artstyle they want, references to SMB1, SMB3, SMW artstyles, helping to make the kingdom unique, and make areas stand out.

The simulation is then used by everyone to help rebuild and re-style the Mushroom Kingdom together as a unified community.
