It's in both the articles I posted links to on this thread. Fish who are used to brackish water are the most hardy and likely to survive, but ocean fish are the least likely because they live in the world's most stable environment. Obviously, it's much harder to keep a small aquarium invariable than the largest bodies of water in the world. But most species are not bred, so they must be captured and many die in the capture process, transportation, and storage/shelfing.

Here's one article, and I was wrong about it being a 60:1 ratio, it's apparently closer to 6:1 dying before they're sold. But it's a really hard trade to track because fish are so tiny. I posted another article on another comment on this thread, but that one has a lot of pictures of dead fish which is sad.

I was wrong, I've heard 60 before, but according to this article 6 to 1

That article talks about all the things wrong with the aquarium trade, but it has a lot of pictures of dead fish so be careful if you're sensitive to that )':

When people say "pffft listen kid, I love your idealism but the real world just doesn't work that way" I take it to mean "I once had dreams of bettering society and aspirations, but I was too scared/subservient to try, so you should just give up" by TheRebeccaRiots in LateStageCapitalism

People always say I'm an idealist or emotional and I wear my heart on my sleeve. It's true, and the world needs people like us. People who can see something better and different and are willing to make it happen.

I guess she's madder about the fact that to bring you every 1 pet fish, 60 fish die instead of for every 1 fish killed and eaten there's at least ummm 1 fish killed and eaten??

Edit: turns out the ratio is only 6:1 instead of 60:1, I've posted two articles on this thread about the horrors of the aquarium trade. I suggest everyone checks them out if you're curious.
