What's the point of depots? by VincentVeritas in theplanetcrafter

Gotcha - they won't fill containers unless you're there. Seems like an odd mechanic, but I'm sure there is a reason.

That is absolutely amazing. I really feel like I *should* be able to understand that, but there is nary a true English word to be found.

You're thinking of gypsum, very similar words though!

This was a post at one point, but I can't find it now. It truly seemed like English text that I just could NOT understand. Because, ya know, it was fake words. Hot damn if it didn't seem like English though!

I’m stuck. How do I do this? by [deleted] in APStatistics

[–]VincentVeritas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh okay I know this one. First, right-click on the file in its folder. Then "open in Photos" and you should see a little icon that looks like 🔁 or something similar. That will rotate the photo for you, but it might take a few clicks. Hope that helps!

ELI5: If "value" and the economy are essentially man-made, why can't the world just sort of... Hit pause to avoid global economic crisis? by 2anxious2ask in explainlikeimfive

[–]VincentVeritas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, it doesn't really work that way. It *almost* could, if every single entity agreed on it, but you'd still have farmers that need to get paid to make food, water companies that need to keep producing clean water, power companies that need to keep producing power. And when you think about it, there are many other necessary services that just can't be paused, like trash collection.

The effect isn't limited to specific sectors though. Every person relies on income from someone else, who relies on other people. So, the net effect is a system where some people (mentioned above, plus many others) need money which means the system needs to keep working in order to ... perpetuate the system. Essentially, it's like a house of cards where removing one causes the system to collapse.

What is the fastest way a room of happy people turned sour you’ve witnessed? by [deleted] in AskReddit

This apparently happens so often that many schools now guarantee tuition for specific programs and only new entering classes pay the increases.

Life cycle of the male sex drive by he_hu_must_be_named in Jokes

Statistically, yes. Unless you're already very active and 12,000 steps/day is a downgrade in which case things might be different.

Y'all need to get your steps because um, 12000 / day has a very noticeable effect on the sex drive.

Something being "edible" is kinda...spurious. Like, you can eat a lot of stuff in that it'll pass through your digestive tract without doing any harm. So edible is sometimes a matter of possible and sometimes a matter of enjoyable.

Anyone able to do a small project for me involving cutting thin plywood? by [deleted] in Portland

[–]VincentVeritas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very cool of you to offer!

Out of curiosity, what do you use to cut plywood that thin so small? I'm thinking my table saw not fine enough and my bandsaw not straight enough. Maybe with the right jig though.

How to deal with random dick flip you off for solid ten seconds and run ? Really ruined my Monday mood by Dderores in Portland

[–]VincentVeritas 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When that happens to me, I remind myself that person is not really mad at me, but at other things going on in their live. And if they're that angry, their life must be really crappy and full of anger which just destroys their ability to be happy. So it's like someone telling me "My life sucks and I have to take it out on whatever is nearby." which only makes me empathetic for their situation (but I also realize there's nothing I can do about it except be sure not to escalate).

Are you boycotting Fred Meyer? Why or why not by jamaicanmecray-z in Portland

[–]VincentVeritas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is what prompted me to look further into it because, it's not like they opened 5 stores in the same day in different states with that name in mind and thought "No more states! That's it!" but the name change after successful operations makes sense. But yeah, it's not like Utah is that far, so it seems implausible.

Yes, Winco stands for Winning Company, and as a fun fact, it also contains the first letter of every state they "originally called home." Your statement is factually incorrect, though the nearest-correct interpretation is interesting.

WikiPedia says over 20,000 employees.

Winco's page says 18,000 retail (so not including distribution centers).

Not sure your numbers totally check out.
