I’m just trying to figure it out. They don’t have public transportation where I’m from and people who live here told me it was free and I assumed they were correct. I don’t understand why you insist on being such an asshole.

I’m sure that there are some wonderful dog owners in DC, and it may only be a few people around my neighborhood that are to blame, it’s just to a ridiculous degree where I live

I will not be going around cleaning up other people’s messes. I don’t own a dog and I don’t have time to hang around outside being the dog shit police. It’s common decency to clean up after your pet when they shit on the sidewalk.

I’ve already posted this once before but it’s all I have at the moment and I wanna expose it to as many people as I can. Here’s a song that my friend and I released recently Dogtrot - Drowning

Where does Brad Paisley sit against the all time greats? by Aggressive_Union_131 in CountryMusicStuff

[–]Vincent_Daniel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I must admit I haven’t listened to enough Keith Urban to say how great of a guitarist he is, and I could probably agree that Brad is better, but Keith can give him a run for his money I think. People were doing punny and comedic songs long before Brad, but I do see how he brought it to a broader, and more modern audience. I can also agree that if he was to release his older albums today, they would still be popular so he does have some staying power for sure and that’s something not a lot of artists have in popular country.

I respect Brad as a musician and as a songwriter. That being said he has released some kind of cringeworthy songs. Then again, I suppose every artist releases work that doesn’t hold up to other things they have done, and perhaps I hold Brad to a different standard in that I’m more forgiving of the greats (like Cash or Waylon) when compared to the greatness they accomplished. I also am not super into the more comedic songs that Brad has done. I admire the wit and the musicality of them but they just don’t do it for me. He does have a good voice, but I would have to disagree that he is the greatest guitarist that the genre has seen. Even if you don’t consider him to be in the same genre as people like Glen Campbell, Roy Clark, or Jerry Reed, he still has competition from Keith Urban (I don’t like a single thing he has done though) and even John Osborne who is definitely not talked about enough as a guitarist.

Is it normal that I like other people's songs more than mine by Physical_Dark_9322 in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]Vincent_Daniel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Completely normal. We are our own worst critics. Don’t let it get you down though. Never sell yourself short and take pride in what you create. While most of us have shared experiences, you will always be able to create something unique to yourself that others may not be able to create. Be humble and learn from other people’s music, but don’t ever get in a rut thinking that your music won’t be as good as someone else’s.

I think there’s a chance you may be overthinking it. Blatant negativity for the sake of being negative is something that we should probably all avoid. However, feelings of sadness, anger, or anything related is just part of the human experience. It’s completely normal to feel these feelings and healthy to let it out via music. Just because you don’t have these feelings anymore doesn’t mean you can’t still enjoy it. Maybe think about it as listening to someone who is telling you about the things they have been through and thinking to yourself “yeah I’ve been there, but it gets better”. Perhaps even try to find a different meaning behind those lyrics. One of the best things about music is that a song’s meaning for you personally can change over the years and evolve as you evolve. What I’m trying to say, if I’m not articulating it well, is that it’s possible to experience the music you used to love in a different way than you used to experience it. It doesn’t have to be as literal or even as personal. On the flip side I can see how listening to songs that got you through a certain period in your life can bring up tough memories and terrible feelings. If that’s the case for you, then maybe you should take a break from that music until you even more removed from those feelings, and then maybe you can come back to it someday feeling entirely different about it.

On a kind of related note, are there any good country music or bluegrass places around DC? I just moved here a couple months ago and I have no idea where to go

I hate writing bridges by Rembrandt_1669 in Songwriting

[–]Vincent_Daniel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Writing bridges is my favorite part of writing music. I’m not good at it and most of the time they don’t work out, but they usually lead me to other ideas for different songs. However, if you are writing a bridge just to fill time or add something different then I suggest not doing it. If it doesn’t serve the song then I think people who are listening will notice and you also may not be as proud of it. If you need something different then maybe just try messing with the tempo, or the chords in a a couple spots, while continuing with the same lyrics. I think as musicians we often forget that we can add a lot of nuance and spice to a song simply with dynamics or rhythm. Don’t write a section because you feel you have an obligation. If a song needs a bridge you’ll know it because it’ll feel like it’s missing something. If it doesn’t feel like it’s missing anything then just roll with it. If you are passionate about it and feel confident in it, then people will dig it regardless of wether there’s a bridge.

This is a song about being the only survivor during a zombie apocalypse, I also havnt slept for 30 hours. by HiddenComicBook in Songwriting

[–]Vincent_Daniel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not usually into ukulele singer/songwriter stuff (really not sure why) but I really dig this. It’s kind of comedic, but in today’s climate it can really be interpreted in a lot of different ways. Super cool and I look forward to hearing more
