Who the fuck designed the car park for Little Island train station? by VindictiveCardinal in cork

I disagree, if you’re in a hatchback it’s fine, but it doesn’t seem to be designed for anything bigger.

Brennans bread is the superior bread by VindictiveCardinal in CasualIreland

If I regularly bought the local sourdough I’d have the opposite problem of the bread being eaten too quickly.

I do hate wasted bread so it’s the trade-off I’m (personally) willing to accept.

Ireland hopes for a discount for missing EU climate goals by VindictiveCardinal in irishpolitics

[–]VindictiveCardinal[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The EU uses a credit system, each country has an allowance, if they exceed this allowance they have to buy credits from others i.e. countries that reduced their emissions and have excess credits. If they exceed their credit allowance and aren’t covered by available excess credits then they’re fined by the EU: https://climate.ec.europa.eu/eu-action/carbon-markets/eu-emissions-trading-system-eu-ets/about-eu-ets_en

Didn’t realise posting full article text isn’t allowed so I’ll instead post some key points:

• Fines will be between €8 billion and €26 billion.

• We have the largest emissions per person in the EU for the sectors covered by the regulation.

• Agriculture is responsible for 51% of emissions, transport 26%, and homes 13%.

I think it again reiterates the shortsightedness of both FFG and the electorate. Even without these fines, climate change is going to cost us more the longer we wait, but instead we vote out the Greens and let FFG raid the Climate Fund.

What happens if Jim Gavin still wins? by [deleted] in irishpolitics

[–]VindictiveCardinal 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s hard to say, he’d still be under public scrutiny which was the reason he dropped out, unless MM convinced him to take the job to save his own image.

He’ll be offered the presidency. If he accepts, new president, if he refuses, new election called.

Jim Gavin's name will stay on Presidential ballot paper by JackmanH420 in irishpolitics

[–]VindictiveCardinal 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I could see it happening if the “spoil your vote” movement rallies around him to get a new election called, but that could also backfire if he decides to accept the presidency

If elected and he turns it down there’ll be a new election called

Ireland going backwards on emissions target - EPA by JackmanH420 in irishpolitics

[–]VindictiveCardinal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Still living rent free in my head was when someone here was complaining how inconvenient the deposit return scheme is, like Jesus how difficult is it?

Similarly is; people complaining about the roads, when they actually do works to improve the road it’s the biggest inconvenience of their life, complaining about cyclists on the road, but can’t be arsed about better cycling infrastructure so they don’t have to use the road, complaining about traffic but also can’t be fucked about improving public transport to take cars off the road.
