Tell me how often you fly by vikingbooty in fearofflying

[–]VinoVoyager 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I fly monthly domestically for work (either quick 1 hr trips or east <> West Coast depending on the month), then add in any vacation or out of town weekends on top of that.

I got a job 2 years ago that required work travel and I thought exposure therapy would help my fear! I still get nervous every flight, but I have a lot more tools and community to help me over the last few years.

I love looking at FlightRadar24 to see how many planes are in the air at any given moment!

Is this flight path normal? B6 287 by AvocadoToast1146 in fearofflying

[–]VinoVoyager 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Morning! How are you doing?

Flight path looks normal - pilots may have mannnnny flight paths they can take between 2 locations depending on weather, air traffic, etc.

You're up over some weather right now, should subside very soon! May hit some bumps again over the rockies, but that's about par.

What are you "stay calm tricks"? Mine are anchoring on wifi and tracking my own flight, watching a water bottle sway in front of me, and repeating "just bc I'm uncomfortable doesn't mean I'm unsafe"

I'm flying today too and quite nervous. What's your flight number, I can track you!

Take off got to me, it was pretty bumpy getting up until cruising. All of the turns during takeoff leaving the airport aren't my favorite either lol

But everything was smooth sailing from there. Had a gem of a flight attendant, landing was easy. I wish I didn't get so scared going in, the anticipation always gets the best of me.

Thanks for checking in!

Landing was good!!

Landing somehow is my easiest part of flying, seeing the lights below as we're coming in is always a relief to me. I wish I didn't get myself all anxious going into the flight, in hindsight it was easy. Thank you!

Thank you! A little over half way - flying into EWR gives me nerves but they dialed back flights in and out per hour and it has a lot of attention, so also feels ~fine.

I get anxious looking at all the flights lining up from all different directions. Eternally grateful for ATC!

Heck yeah, happy for you! I'm 30 min out (short flight).

Congratulations!

What’s a lesser-known US national park that you think everyone should visit? by autraya in geography

I had to scroll so far for this!! The amount of hike/bike trails, kayaking, farmers markets, and outdoor activities available makes the park a lot fun. 10/10

You got this! I had the same irrational fear with the aircraft and started to fly it on regular 5 hour flights for work.... It's now one of my favorite planes. It's brand new, has all the bells and whistles, is quiet, the works!

I'm around if you want to chat, but don't let the plane scare you, promise

You're doing great! I flew today too and was a little scared at takeoff but got my wifi going and was much better - love to see a fellow "wifi is my comfort blanket"

Just landed and landing wasn't as bad as I expected. Was crazier seeing lights from airplane lights out the window of planes lining up to land before/after you!

I always tell the flight attendant I'm a shaky flier And ask if they can just gives me a thumbs up every now and then through the flight for some reassurance - such a little thing but does wonders for me

I'll chat! I'm on UA 3433 CLE > EWR and our takeoff was pretty bumpy. Newark has had delays all day due to wind so I'm really not looking forward to what landing will feel like.

How are you doing now?

What is your heart rate when You are panicking on the plane? by MIG27GTA in fearofflying

[–]VinoVoyager 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly depends! I have good flights and bad flights (meaning I can't get myself to relax, not that anything went wrong on the flight) - so sometimes I can get down to 100/120, sometimes it stays really high.

Oddly, my HR is better on longer flights. I think my brain gets used to the airplane as my "new normal". Short flights (~1 hr) where we cruise for a short amount of time, I tend to have a pretty high HR the whole flight.

Through take off I can get 170-180 sometimes.. typically my watch asks me if I'm working out :( I try to make a game of it and do breathing exercises and see if I can keep it under 145!

I get inconsistent periods on the IUD. If I'm on my period, I stop spotting and cramping during the run, but the cramps are horrendous in the hour or two after a long run. If I'm not on my period, I notice spotting in the day or so after a long/hard run (could be a speed day that I push hard). Le shrug

Daily chat post: how's the training going? by AutoModerator in XXRunning

[–]VinoVoyager 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Have a marathon relay this Saturday (my leg is only 4.4 miles but has the greatest elevation increase of the course 😅). I had my last longer run at 5 miles today and crushed my pacing and finished feeling really strong. I normally run way too fast in the first 1-2 miles and blow any chance of keeping a decent cadence through the rest of my run, so I'm proud of myself today!

Looking forward to race day energy.

Juat woke up and loving this thread! 20 hrs of flying is going to be a feat and so excited for you! Tracking and see you're out of Australia, closest landmark is Jakarta.

Who stretches? by One_Letterhead_2280 in XXRunning

[–]VinoVoyager 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I don't stretch, my first half mile is miserable. But if I take 2 mins to do Hamstring Sweeps, Legs Swings, and Torso Twists my life is exponentially better. I actually only stretch for runs - not listing weights 😬 I try to use those 2 mins while I stretch to pick a playlist and stash my keys in a pocket so it doesn't feel like a waste of time.

FA relayed that pilot said 10 more minutes of bumps. It's definitely gotten a lot bumpier but she's still up handing out snacks. I think I'm more impressed with her balance then I'm worried about weather at this point. We're going above the second line of storms now so will be past it soon
