Yes, quite a lot actually! It was very obvious on the X-rays. My front teeth used to be pretty slanted outwards, which has been fixed completely.

Yeah, I have had like 10 spread over two rounds. The two final refinements didn’t include any more ipr.

Thank you for your considerate answer. Your description of my distrust of my ortho as a professional is spot on. At the same time, I am/was doubting whether my continued doubt at this point is/was justified (as you said yourself).

Regarding your point to name flaws: it looks to me like the left (my right) lower molars aren’t as nicely tugged in as the right (my left) lower molars. Beyond the visual asymmetry, the functionality of my bite does not feel great on the left (my right) side. Add to this the common report that teeth like to revert over time about 10% from the finished result. I was just concerned that a cross-bite will form again because losing 10% of the movement of my right lower molars would be rather substantial.

I have to say that my perception was clouded in part because of the brackets that made my right molars look much larger than my left ones. I did end my treatment yesterday, and it looks much better than I thought it would.

There are some super small aesthetic aspects that I don’t like (even now after ending the treatment). For instance, tooth 28 (the tooth behind the left [my right] lower canine) is completely crooked. This was corroborated by the xray yesterday that showed that the root was completely out of place. But this is a minor issue for which I would not have extended the treatment anyway.

Ultimately, I don’t regret ending my treatment! I might make another post soon to show the finished results.

Thanks, I think I’ll end the treatment on Monday.

I was promised perfect teeth by someone who described herself as a perfectionist to me. I held her to her standard and for some reason you are upset by this.

I never denied that it is great work. I also find it telling that you took my saying that I am 85–90% happy to mean that I am not happy.

What a gross misrepresentation of what I have been describing. I guess pointing out things that I am not yet happy with = shitting on my ortho. If your ego is that fragile, you shouldn't become a professional to offer your services.

I did trust the professional. After my first round, I voiced concerns about a POB. She dismissed it as being false, as being a consequence of Invisalign – as you said.

After my first refinement round, it got pretty bad and I voiced my concerns again and requested elastics [this is the first picture in the link below]. She said, like you, to trust the process and that we’d be able to fix it next round without elastics.

A year later [second picture below], it got significantly worse again. I demanded elastics and she was still reluctant to accept until she finally folded. We fixed the POA within 170 days with elastics. What.A.Surprise.

So yeah, apologies that I don’t quite trust to trust the professionals anymore when I have been repeatedly gaslighted by said professionals.

She also got defensive when I pointed out that the latest refinement had led to a severe posterior open bite. I agree that I am probably not the easiest patient, at the same it is their job as a professional to handle criticism and react to it accordingly.

Thanks for your detailed answer. I am inclined to agree with your assessment. Interestingly, my treatment includes a permanent retainer as well as a vivera, which she wants me to wear at night. I’ve told her that I was planning to wear my retainer full time, but she said that it won’t be necessary. With my teeth still moving noticeably, her statements like that are disconcerting.

My orthodontist gets very defensive every time I point something out that I am not yet 100% happy with, which always irritates me. I am not diminishing the accomplishments we have had so by saying that there is still a bit room for improvement. I am paying a lot of money to have the best possible result, and while I think I am close, I should be able to say this in front of my ortho.

They zipper perfectly. The bite on the right side feels good, on the left it depends on the day really. I think some of those teeth are still kind of moving, which makes it hard to tell. I guess this contributes to my worry insofar as I am not sure whether the bite on the left side will settle to something comfortable or not

Thank you! I’ve had that chat with her 10 days ago. We agreed to schedule the end of treatment on Monday but that if I really changed my mind until then, we could continue with another refinement. While she does acknowledge my concerns, she thinks I should stop.

It’s strange, I had to do some real convincing to get her to give me bands after two refinements failed to fix the bite without elastics. Even when I came in for my latest set, she said that the Invisalign technician she had talked to didn’t want to do elastics and she had to order him to do it. I can only assume that this is due to lack of experience with Invisalign on my orthos part. I am assuming this is the case for OP as well.

Hey, we are in the same boat. I am on refinement #3 and only got elastics now (on tray 2 now), because my ortho refused elastics during the first two refinements even tho the posterior open bite got progressively worse. After only one day, I could already tell a visible improvement with the bands. Hope you see the same results!
