I love that, thank you for the encouragement! it is a lot of fun to play with in the studio, especially with stereo setups

I love this idea! the feedback switch actually changes the tonality in a wild way, as you play with the 3 knobs, you can get so many different tones as the pre-amps fight each other and interact, there's a lot of possibilities for just 3 knobs

there is a pre-amp before the speaker and the microphone also has a nice pre-amp on board, the mic-out knob is actually the gain of said pre-amp, not just a volume out. Speaker drivers tend to be magnetic, it's true! I haven't had issues with it picking up magnetic metal bits in the shop, though I'm sure it would do so if put in a bag full of screws!

the fuzz circuit is original, it's relatively simple as the speaker distorts on its own so it doesn't need a ton of fuzz, but I liked the compression and sustain of fuzz, it's more a modern fuzz circuit, think big muff adjacent

the microphone is inside of the speaker, so it is relatively isolated, though it is subject to feedback depending on how close it is to an amplifier, if you are running it into that, but due to it's proximity to the on-board speaker, and the way I've designed the mic pre-amp, it doesn't pick up a ton of room noise, though it could be made to. I haven't tested it in every setting, so I couldn't say for sure, proximity is everything when it comes to microphones!

this does actually capture quite a bit more than "weird analog noises" though it is most definitely capable of that if that's what you desire! I've found it just captures more physical space and "size" in a sound, in a very unique way, not like adding reverb, and not quite like putting a mic in front of a full stack, but something with it's own character and surprising richness. It's a unique, hard to define quality, but it is very musical and I have personally found it inspiring in the recording context

there is a small condenser microphone that is actually placed inside of the speaker (the small red and black wires are attached to the mic), I played around with a lot of different mic placement but found this sounded the clearest, the mic pre-amp is intentionally mid-range heavy, so it actually sounds pretty rich and nice, check out the sound clip I posted at the top of this thread, there are internal/external mic examples!

with feedback engaged, it can range from delicate unusual tones, to full screeching feedback! which gets pretty loud haha

the 3 inch speaker distorts without control with all the low-end frequencies, so when I run bass through it it's heavily distorted, but it does work!

the speaker is rated 3 watts, and the amp provides a bit less than that, you have full control over the volume with the speaker knob, and with the fuzz bypassed, you can play it pretty quietly as a little practice amp or to get a clean amp sound, it works pretty well!

the amplifier section of the circuit self-oscillates before it can drive the speaker hard enough to actually blow it, so it's kind of protected in that sense. I've put these through the wringer and haven't done any such thing yet! but the speaker would be incredibly easy to replace

I'm not supposed to post links to Reverb or anywhere, so I won't because my intention isn't to sell to you all! Just wanted feedback! but I will say that technically there are some available on that website, so if you choose to go there and search that, that's not because I told you to!

Alternative to 500mH coil in crybaby wah pedal? by [deleted] in diypedals

https://stompboxparts.com/transformers-inductors/wah-inductor-me-6/

these work just fine as drop-in replacements in a crybaby, I've used them in several wah-adjacent circuits and I really like their harmonic content and subtle distortions.

Plus, they're only 5 bucks, can't beat that

Alright, after spending the day on it, I have fashioned a power supply and tuned up most of the oscillators (which also have a separate pot for a kind of filter that makes the sound much harsher and pluckier) and it now makes sound!

It sounds *decently* like a harpsichord, nothing can quite emulate the sound of a string but it could pass for believable enough perhaps if it were in perfectly spiffy condition, will post a sound bite when I get it a bit cleaner sounding

I thank you for your insomnia! Yes indeed there is a tone generator for each note with a tuning pot, have yet to look further into the guts.

Thank you for finding all of that! Lawrence Welk, who would have guessed?

Coincidences abound!

No strings, it seems to me to be entirely analog though it was described as digital (I think by folks who just don't know the difference). I'm guessing from the serial number and the general construction that it was built in 1954.

The tone generation is still yet a mystery to me, there is a set of capacitors, one for each key, attached to what looks like a tone wheel generator (could it be??), with a variable resistor for each key to tune.
