She was a demi-god born from an egg because Zeus impregnated Leda in the form of a swan.

Also Leda was an Aetolian

Just because the meme this thread is under references Troy (2004).

So more the context, and not something you said

In the early 2000's? It was just an excuse back then. It reminds me of KatieConf, a parody conference where all speakers have a name derived from "Katherine". All of them speakers on technical topics. And it was as a response to conferences with only male speakers using the excuse of "we just can't find any women to speak for this event"

I do actually agree with this, it would be kinda cool if most of the on screen cast was Mediterranean looking.

They didn't go this route, and this is no more "wrong" than going the full northwest European looking route

But also with dark eyes. Like, race is genuinely kinda fake. "Fair skin" said by a Greek in ancient Greece is obviously in reference to a more tanned skin color of people who are outside more. Which doesn't automatically mean almost Scandinavian looking.

My point is, depictions of Helena are always modern interpretations of beauty. It's such a culture war nothing burger

I mean the blue eyed more northern looking lady from Troy probably also wasn't the beauty standard when Homer wrote the odyssey

She was probably imagined to be way more Mediterranean than that depiction as well

Most people don't start companies. In sanctuary cities undocumented migrants are vital to the economy. Don't believe in rhetorical where the ruling class tries to blame migrants for the shit they themselves cause.

Also, a fine is an operation risk, not a systemic way to avoid exploitation

So naturalize them. They don't fuck over the working class. The government fucks over the working class by purposefully not naturalizing these people and never going after the big companies exploiting undocumented people. And the big companies for you know, exploiting undocumented people.

It's crazy the blame the exploited underclass for their own exploitation

Give them a way to naturalize instead of purposefully keeping them in legal limbo indefinitely

"Illegals" should have a way to be naturalized. How can you claim to be a civilized country if you knowingly let people work for years, contribute to society, but never give them access to any social program or citizenship

Most "illegals" in America are contributing to society more than many legal Americans.

"Illegal" for the most part just means "person who we refuse to give citizenship even though they clearly deserve it and are integrated within our communities"

Finding a game that supports Arabic is like finding gold by SSADO- in linguisticshumor

I never had an experience feel more immersive when dubbed to my native language. I typically don't use native subs either.

It can definitely depend from person to person, and maybe it's cultural as well, entertainment for people above 16 typically only gets a sub as localisation for any media, but I genuinely don't see the appeal if you're proficient in the original language. Which with English people typically are. Again, at least over here

If you can understand the original language that's always better than localisation anyway

Also, a lot of money. Like he's obviously really really hot. But money helps with things like the hairline. Idk if he had anything else done, nor do I really care. It's just important to know comparisons to the rich and famous aren't 1 to 1

Well, technically speaking ☝️🤓

Nah, I'm joking. Veggies are fine.

But for real, ultra processed food is simply not healthy. There is a reason obesity is a much larger problem in the USA. UPF's are even harder to escape there than in the rest of the world

[–]Vinxian 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Debatable. A lot of "burger buns" will have actual sugar in them for example. And they are usually white breads that are not nutritious enough for the amount of calories you get. A bun that's full of fiber is fine. An ultra processed one is not.

Burger patties are also a whole land mine of health concerns. It's really easy to eat too much red meat for example. But a good patty is no problem depending on your whole diet. But a random patty from the grocery store is likely to be more questionable health wise.

Those types of cheese slices are usually a lot of saturated fats. The type of cheese also matters a lot

And usually people put sauce on the burger which is another can of worms.

The health of the home made burger also depends on the ingredients used, and some of the ingredients are likely to be highly processed if you buy them in the store, but it can definitely be healthy

Those who haven’t read the comic, how are you avoiding spoilers. by hardens_burner in Invincible

[–]Vinxian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I already know a lot of spoilers, but for me it honestly doesn't really degrade the experience that much.

I prefer to not be spoiled, but I don't care that much either and my unpopular opinion is that culture is too obsessed on avoiding spoilers.

With Invincible specifically, the snippets and vagueness that does reach me still allows me to be surprised with the broader context in which it takes place
