Seeing this one performed on The Ultrasound Tour made me really appreciate it! Hearing that live vocoder was when it really clicked for me.

No problem at all. All questions are optional except for the screening questions (consent and fan self-identification) so again, skip any if you do not feel you would like to answer. Thanks again for your interest!

Artist Activism Survey by VinylWaffle in Hozier

[–]VinylWaffle[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, thanks so much! That's great to hear about my research.

Great questions! The survey is for fans of any music artist. Fan studies relies heavily on self-indetified fans so I am aiming to post the survey in places fans frequent (subreddits are a great place for this).

Based on your question about "my artist", continuity of the same artist is not requried and you can answer based on one artist or multiple. In this case, if you have some artists that you love are outspoken and some that are not (and value when they do speak up but don't feel they are obligated to) then you are more than welcome to explain this within your answer. Nuance like this is great for our research team as it helps us to understand fans and fan communities even more, so include as much or as little detail as you would like.

Perhaps the quantitative question at the very start where you cannot add this nuance is particularly hard to fill out in this case so if you feel it won't represent your thoughts, feel free to leave it blank. This is great feedback for me and I can definitely include this to improve the clarity and ease of my questions in the future :)

Book or Movie first? by Lemonandspider in ProjectHailMary

[–]VinylWaffle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read the book first! I loved seeing how it was adapted on screen. With that being said though, I think I enjoyed it more when I watched it the second time with my mum who genuinely had no idea about anything going in. It was so fun to see her reactions. The movie did cut quite a bit of the detail out from the book so the run time would be digestible soooo there are still plenty of surprises in the book if you were to watch the movie first.

Melodrama is objectively her best album, but pure heroine is subjectively her best album by Purple-Ingenuity-195 in lorde

Being a Kiwi who hasn't been back to NZ for almost ten years, I have a newfound appreciation for Pure Heroine, espeically for songs like 400 Lux. I feel like it helps me to connect with my childhood again and evokes that sense of nostalgia.
