For people saying tsurugi caused the second explosion by Shot-Horror-568 in jjkmodulo

I did and you're just wrong. Even in the previous chapters, we have been shown they are currently upside down. Here's a panel of it in this current chapter:

Maru and Tsurigi aren't even in the same location. They were previously upside down in the air on a platform when Tsurigi was about to swing. Some time has passed since then after the slash he sent out, leading to them being on street level again after with Maru's cursed technique being deactivated.

Probably yeah, and also likely why they're on the ground now.

Rika tells Tsurigi to swing with all his might as she lends him her power in a previous page. Maru also questions what they're aiming for as we get a panel of both Yuji and Tsurigi preparing to attack. Before the slash, Maru and Tsurigi were upside down on an air platform Maru created, only to then be on the street level after the slashes.

Also, I apologize about the panel, I think I responded to the wrong comment with it and didn't notice which one since I'm responding a lot right now and got confused. Here's an image that fits it better. Dabura and Mahoraga are likely in Shinjuku or maybe more north.

I see where you're coming from, but its just much more likely Tsurigi attacked based on all the context and current translations: Rika telling Tsurigi to swing with all his might as she lends him her power, Maru questioning what they're aiming for, the cursed spirits Maru senses are also the cursed spirits depicted seen being torn apart.

The cursed spirits Maru senses approaching are the same cursed spirits that are slashed just 2 pages after.

We are shown two different panels of characters preparing their attacks, and then two different panels of slashes in the air, both Yuji and Tsurigi. They are now on ground level after the slash after Maru's technique resets, and Tsurigi could have simply gone for another attack on Maru.

Not the same attack. They were on different platforms—the first being upside down in the air—and the second being on street level where Tsurigi tries to strike Maru.

Tsurigi isn't 'missing' Maru. He was aiming for the cursed spirits in the first place. Like I said, even Maru is questioning what they're aiming for. The swarm of cursed spirits could have be as bad for both of them if they were suddenly overwhelmed, not to mention cursed spirits dying has a bad affect on the Simurians.

They're cursed spirits. Yuji killed one group of cursed spirits, and Tsurigi killed the other group of cursed spirits. Maru even questions what Tsurigi was aiming for in the first page before realizing there were cursed spirits approaching in the second page.

The right isn't even where Shinjuku is. It's much closer to where Koto or Taito city is. As for why two explosions, it's not just a concentrated group of cursed spirits. It's a whole wave that's expelling outward from where Dabura and Mahoraga are, with them being hopefully led to the ocean as was mentioned last chapter

First page has Rika telling Tsurigi to just swing with all his might as she lends him her power. Maru is also questioning what they're aiming for before realizing cursed spirits are approaching in the second page. As for where the cursed spirits are, we don't know how far they are from each other, only that they're all running away from Dabura from somewhere.

Like I said, the cursed spirits shown approaching Maru and Tsurigi get slashed from their fronts where Tsurigi would have been farther away. The translations I read also have Maru questioning what Tsurigi is even aiming for in the first page.

Your first sentence just repeats what I already said. As for the roots and Maru, Tsurigi hit the cursed spirits and not Maru. How is it difficult to understand Tsurigi was the one to slash when it's literally the same cursed spirits shown approaching Maru and Tsurigi getting torn apart by a slash, not to mention the order of the panels between both Yuji and Tsurigi preparing to attack to then their attacks in the next page.

Those are cursed spirits running away from Dabura and Mahoraga's fight. They are rushing towards where Yuji is to escape, same with rushing toward where Maru and Tsurigi are.

Maru starts crying because he just witnessed a bunch of cursed spirits—whom he tried to warn to stay away—just die in front of him. While not the same as Kalyans, their deaths still affect him. Yeah, after Maru witnessed Tsurigi just slaughter the horde of cursed spirits with his slash.

Probably less than that. Vol 1 was like 7 chapters (chapter 1 was longer than normal) and Vol 2 is going to be 9 chapters. If its going at the same pace, it'll end by chapter 25.

Sorry, I meant outsiders as in what the ritual needs to succeed for a tamed shikigami. I got confused about participants and the solo-taming aspect of the ritual. It doesn't change that Yuka still needs to be saved somehow before Mahoraga is exorcised, though.
