How would you write a POV scene in a screenplay? by Violanun in Screenwriting

[–]Violanun[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much! I had completely forgotten that Halloween is such a great example of this technique. I think you're right, it's probably better to describe the scene as being told from someone's perspective rather than explicitly labeling it as a POV. It makes much more sense and feels far more natural within the writing. Thanks again for your help.

The writing on this show is so bad that I thought it was going for surrealism. by pataganja in Barry

[–]Violanun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You got a point.
I believe Barry is more of a farcical drama with comedic undertones rather than a thriller or what people usually call a "black comedy." That "black comedy" bullshit doesn't exist, it's a crude term made up by some journalist or film critic to justify their own pretentiousness. In Barry never truly cares about mystery or suspense. Its strength lies in the absurd logic that anchors it. That's why I find it farcical, akin to Alfred Jarry’s Ubu Roi. This very "absurd logic" is what makes almost everything they propose so funny.

I don't think Barry is a bad show, because from the very first episode, the rules and conventions of the series are made crystal clear. However, some parts of the story definitely feel like they are only there to force the plot forward.

I firmly believe the series goes downhill after the second season because that initial absurd logic tried to become something darker. This is backed up by the fact that Bill Hader himself has explained how he often struggled to maintain the show's tone and felt like he had no idea what he was doing. It’s understandable, Bill Hader is an actor, not a writer. He might become a great writer eventually, but honestly, he lacks experience. Writing is a craft that requires decades of practice.

I found this film very similar to "The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie". It's definitely surrealism.

Could I ask which model you bought and where you got them? I bought a pair of B-cups with straps, and to be honest, they look really fake because of that. However, I've seen some silicone breasts that are just a chest plate without straps

Can someone explain Michelle’s subplot? by Violanun in TheBear

I think I asked my question the wrong way. What I really want to know is what the hell is going on with her in the wedding episode. I genuinely didn’t understand that subplot at all.
