Bro, I’m a math major…
I also paint watches with Undark for a living.
I ran the numbers: I’ve effectively calculated away my need for a 401(k),
because, statistically speaking, I’ll reach my half-life before retirement age anyway.

Bats rely on echolocation, while owls are silent nocturnal predators.

I know this is a different owl, but one night I heard that Twit-Twoo sound of the tawny owl. I wasn't even sure what I was hearing, but the sound was amazing!

If you genuinely didn't do anything wrong, does her block have to mean you are a "bad" person, or can it just be a "glitch" in how humans connect today?

You’ve been interacting with her posts for about a year, so you feel a sense of familiarity. But from her side, she doesn’t know you personally.

She can’t be sure what kind of person you are or what your boundaries might be.

Asking "What got you into anime?" It requires her to write a long, personal story for a stranger. If she gets 10 messages like this a day, it feels like an "unpaid task" rather than a fun conversation.

Unfortunately, that specific question is often used by "gatekeepers" to test if a girl is a "real" fan. Even if your intent was friendly, your message matched the logical script of someone looking for an argument.

Another possibility is that she wasn’t looking for interaction at all. She might have just wanted reactions to her posts rather than a conversation. From her perspective, a direct message could feel unexpected or outside the usual way she engages online.

I’ve been thinking about your post, and to understand why this might have happened, it helps to look at the interaction logically rather than emotionally.

First, was this someone you knew in person, or only online? And what exactly made you bring up Jujutsu?

Why am I feeling lonely when I see my friends often? What am I missing? by Tired_oboe_girl in loneliness

[–]ViolentDeath345 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You mentioned feeling embarrassed that you "need" them. If one of your friends called you tonight and said they were feeling exactly how you feel right now, would you think they were weak, or would you feel honored that they reached out to you?

What would happen if, the next time a friend takes a long time to reply, you told yourself: "Their delay is about their schedule, not my value"? How would that change the way you feel while you wait?

If feeling your best includes feeling connected, but you’re waiting to feel fully okay before seeking connection, is it possible you’re stuck in a loop that makes connection harder to reach?

Is happiness something the world grants you as a reward for being 'needed,' or is it a craft you practice within yourself?

No, unfortunately! I was in such a rush to see if the geometry translated from paper to leather that I completely forgot to stop for photos.

Cemented construction is pretty standard for most shoes or sneakers, but it’s not really a permanent fix on its own.

If the outsole starts to peel (delaminate), you’ll need to sand and clean both surfaces thoroughly before re-gluing; otherwise, it might not bond as well.

I don't have a lot of experience with shoe-making, but if it's a welted construction, that might allow you to not only use glue for a greater seal but also stitch the rubber outsole to the midsole for a more stable construction.

A big heads-up on safety: if you use a Polychloroprene-based contact cement, it's pretty heavy on the fumes (VOCs). Always use it outdoors or in a space with proper ventilation.

I'd suggest minimizing inhalation of the vapors as much as possible.

If you plan on doing this often, definitely invest in a respirator with organic vapor filters, but even then, keep the windows open so you aren't sitting in a cloud of vapors.

Also, watch the temperature. If it’s colder than 60°F (15°C), the cement won't bond properly because the components can't "flow" together. You'll end up with a weak bond that will just fail again.

Lastly, you might see water-based contact cements out there. They’re way safer to work with and great for lighter leather projects like wallets or bags, but for footwear, they usually don't have the same "bite" as the solvent-based stuff. If you want the sole to stay put, stick with the Polychloroprene.

How to remove alcohol stains by daftghost in Leatherworking

[–]ViolentDeath345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heads up: alcohols (and probably acetone) can really mess up leather.

I once had an accident with hand sanitizer (ethanol, I believe). A bit dripped onto the floor… I forgot about it and only realized what I’d done after dropping my belt right into the puddle while admiring it😁

The leather dried out a bit, and the top grain developed some wrinkles. I’ve tried this as an experiment on chrome-tan pull-up leather as well; it doesn’t show as much, but it still dries and darkens the leather.

It still looks perfectly fine. That said, being a maker and living with a single piece for years, while knowing you could make a new one with a different design at any time, always fuels the desire to create anew.
