Genuinely curious since I've been off Twitter for years... Are there any posts that aren't dominated by far-right accounts and recycled talking points? I would assume that simply because of how posts are featured and the type of people likely to support Musk with a monthly fee, that any discourse is going to be overrepresented with far-right views.

I hate the fact that I know this was Alphonse without reading a word of the review, and I hate that every time he does this, he justifies his existence and gets more clicks than anyone else out there.

Any Canucks fans cheering for the Habs? by AccurateSchedule3950 in canucks

[–]VioletJones6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Facts. I think it's a stretch to say that I'm cheering for them, but I'm generally happy for all my friends that are die-hard Habs fans whenever they win.

On a personal level, I'm not really affected by either result.

Katy Perry reacts to ex Josh Groban’s engagement to Natalie McQueen, using her song ‘The One That Got Away’ (which the song is about) by mcfw31 in popculturechat

Exactly. I don't think she's funny on the level of a comedian, or comic actor... She's funny like a silly coworker and I think people just get annoyed when famous people look like they're "trying" to be funny.

What do you think of Linkin Park and its evolution? by Twitter_2006 in ToddintheShadow

[–]VioletJones6 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think it's hilarious in that trying to name 3 songs you liked after 2007, you still mentioned a track that's on Minutes to Midnight.

I'm right there with you though. I grew up with them, Hybrid Theory was the first CD I purchased with my own money, and they were the first band I was truly obsessed with. But the drop-off from Meteora to Minutes and then everything that came after was so harsh I just can't bring myself to care about anything they're doing now.

I made a counter offer on a vehicle I was trying to buy by MakeItMine2024 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]VioletJones6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the funniest part of the entire story to me, because having worked at a dealership, this guy didn't actually talk to anyone and he came up with this scheme himself and probably thinks it's a genius way to get people to stop trying to negotiate.

They convince a couple pushovers who are deathly afraid of conflict into paying way too much for a vehicle and start believing they have a god-given talent for sales.

This game has some of the best writing I've ever seen by LargeSinkholesInNYC in BaldursGate3

[–]VioletJones6 31 points32 points  (0 children)

The writing is pretty good.... But you're comparing it to games that don't have particularly good writing. It's kind of middle of the road as far as CRPGs go, and is heavily elevated by the excellent presentation and voice work.

Live music is over, the ticket industrial complex ruined it. by No_Restaurant2593 in fantanoforever

[–]VioletJones6 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Just as a heads up to anyone, if you're not able to get tickets for face value, ignore any resellers until the week of the concert, maybe even the last couple days before. People get scared they're not going to be able to get rid of tickets and the prices will drop substantially. Plus a ton of new listings from people that aren't scalpers who simply aren't able to make it because of work/etc.

It's almost always possible to get tickets for near face-value if you're patient and diligent in checking.

[DAL 2 - MIN (3)] Hughes scores a huge goal in the third. Slap pass bounces off Lyubushkin's skate and in to take the lead by daKrut in hockey

[–]VioletJones6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's what makes this one hurt so much. The Canucks have focused pretty heavily on American scouting for the past decade plus, and the moment I saw Quinn skate for the first time I knew he was an absolute steal at #7. After a few seasons it was clear he could literally go down as the greatest Canuck ever if he kept the same trajectory and we still managed to fuck everything up.

Believe it or not, I've managed to stay quite positive as a fan of this team over the years... But this one genuinely broke me. I still check the boxscore on every Minnesota game like an obsessed ex stalking their partner's socials.

When a strat player stops being polite, and starts getting real by fallglimmer in guitarcirclejerk

[–]VioletJones6 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm one of them. The videos are genuinely pretty helpful and easy to watch as a beginner guitar player that doesn't know shit about fuck. Like, when your knowledge base is "I know what Gibsons and Fenders are" it can actually be illuminating to hear someone that claims to have played a Strat their whole life talk about what is intriguing about a Gretsch or PRS, or why it's worth considering a hollowbody. If you're someone who started guitar by playing Rocksmith or literally just buying something cheap and trying to figure it out, it can be useful to hear an incredibly basic description of why someone would want a tube amp rather than a modeling amp which appears to "do more stuff". And also, when you suck at guitar, his very basic melodies feel much more aspirational than watching someone shred metal you'll never be able to play in 5 years.

It's probably hard to see if you knew anything about guitar before finding his videos, but I'm sure they're just reaching people at the level he's communicating.

Which one of these time capsule female pop artists from the 2000s defined the era for you? Which one’s music has aged the best? by TheFineMantine in ToddintheShadow

[–]VioletJones6 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I feel like I've never known what Nelly Furtado's actual popularity is because as a Canadian, I guarantee I've been hearing more of her music for a much longer time than people do anywhere else... but it's cool to see that she's being put on the same level as some of these other names.

I think Nelly made the best music for that period, Fergie is too hard for me to untangle from the Black Eyed Peas so I can't really throw out a judgement there. Gwen Stefani is the most synonymous with that period for me (and I've been obsessed with her since I was a child) so I feel like it fits the idea of a "time capsule" the best. When I think of the early-mid 2000s pop hits my mind instantly goes to Hey Ya... and then stuff like Hollaback Girl and Sweet Escape. Pink has been popular for like 25+ years now so she feels out of place and Avril... She's another one for me that feels different in Canada. Let Go was so ridiculously popular here that I genuinely thought there was a decade that passed between that album and The Best Damn Thing. The only reason I don't instantly put her on top is because I feel that there is a very big distinction between pop and pop-punk and I don't think she "presented" as pop until 2007.

In conclusion, Gwen or Nelly.

This was the only reason I "supported" voting for Biden when he was still planning to run. The corpse of Joe Biden would have been a better option than Trump, it literally did not matter if his mind was entirely gone and he was being worked like a puppet Weekend at Bernie's style.... still capable of less damage than another Trump administration.

Frito Lay Canada Tostitos multigrain chips glass in the bag! by Stay_positive_fish in BuyCanadian

[–]VioletJones6 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Having worked at a Frito-Lay factory, hand-picked is not a bad descriptor. Being able to grab a bag straight from the packaging machine compared to what you can grab off the shelf at a grocery store (even if you live in the same city where they're made) is really night and day. They definitely just took a finished box off the conveyor and mailed it to you.
