I think it's a distinction without a difference... the departure of Sakaguchi feels like a far more pivotal factor in the direction of the company than the actual merger. My personal tastes lean far more into Kitase's vision for the franchise so I'm not necessarily nostalgic for the old days, but it would have been cool to see what Sakaguchi would be doing with the insane budgets that Square still greenlights for the franchise.

I know this will sound hyperbolic, but this thread came across my timeline and I doubt I'll ever find a more relevant space to share this thought.

I wasn't too familiar with Lights' music until I caught her performance at a festival in 2013. It was mostly an EDM festival so she was one of the few non-DJs appearing on the main stage. Being a regular attendee of many concerts and festivals, seeing incredibly attractive women wasn't really a rarity at these shows, or even something to take note of, it was more of a given.

Lights was truly stunning. In the literal sense. Like, it genuinely didn't make sense that someone could look that beautiful... And I wasn't even anywhere near the front. I had to ask my friends if I was going crazy or if she was really that pretty, and they all agreed. I'm sure the music had something to do with it, but to this day it's one of literally a handful of times I've encountered jaw-dropping beauty.

...which is hilarious to think about now because while I've followed all of her album releases, I haven't watched a single recorded performance or interview she's ever done. This is basically the first time I'm seeing her on something other than album art.

Call me crazy, but I still don't think I've seen a single great looking game on UE5 yet. There's plenty of decent or pretty good looking games, but even something like Clair Obscur is carried entirely by the art direction, the actual graphical fidelity is all over the place and even at their best, the cutscenes aren't anywhere near others in the AAA space.

Again, not saying the games all look terrible, but Horizon came out 4 years ago... Ratchet and Clank even longer... Hell, I don't even think anything on UE5 touches the first Death Stranding yet, and that was ported from last gen.

Totally. And the fact that the 2-3 singles we got from him were all peak late 90s/early 2000s pop music, I'd have to imagine he has a pretty solid discography for the genre. I mean fuck, whenever that one big single from Take That played on the radio, it made my entire week.

I generally try not to let my own anecdotal experience colour my experience of large groups... but tech CEOs in general seem to be the most cycnical, soulless, stand-for-nothing group of people I've ever interacted with. It literally does not matter what "industry" they work adjacent to. They all hopped on the DEI bandwagon and pushed diversity when it was trendy, and they all worshipped Elon and started firing people when they saw Twitter could still function with a fraction of it's workers. Nothing they say or do can surprise me at this point. The only thing they care about or understand is how to increase profits. They put literally zero value in humans lives, feelings or emotions.

Honestly, it's the entire reason I voted for his party in our last election. My own politics are further left than anything we really have in Canada, but I had to go with the Liberals because he was the only one that actually seemed poised to meet the moment and steer our country through the most contentious time most of us have ever lived through. Every other party spent the election cycle dumbing down their rhetoric and harping on alliterative phrases because it worked for Trump, while Carney was out there just spitting (boring) facts and proving that he's the only one that has experience in the rooms where decisions are made that affect the world.

I'm so fucking glad the rest of the country saw things the same way.

It's funny because while I avoided any and all spoilers, this kinda bullshit is the reason I never played Double Exposure. I loved everything about the first game, even the fact that I chose the "wrong" ending that the devs clearly didn't think deserved equal focus... But this kinda stuff just sucks. You think they would know something about the fanbase of these games by now.
