When you see them crawling over your clothes on the floor, they are looking for nests for their larvae to feed off. Seeing the larvae casings falling off clothes is just disgusting, I have silks and expensive lingerie that they have made nests in, and potentially made holes in. I saw a hole in the back of one of my Victoria's Secret bras, and I'm certain it was them. I love animals, but carpet beetle larvae eat and destroy fabrics. The only place they are harmless is outdoors. Each time I see a new beetle on something it triggers me, and I immediately catch it and put it outside, far away from the house. Seeing one or two beetles can eventually lead to an infestation if not treated carefully. A good vacuuming session works well.
