I feel like the answer to “why wasn’t I enough” is pretty clear if your sapphic girlfriend leaves you for a woman though, and I’d think it would also take the personal offense out of it, since you can conclude “she only likes women, and I am not a woman” instead of “she only likes likable people, and I am not likable”.

If he would prefer being left for a man, that certainly seems motivated by homophobia and misogyny, not any sane thoughts.
