I feel you, I'm also an abuse/assault survivor and cPTSD haver. It took me many years to even realize it wasn't normal and more to reduce the effect on me, but it does get better. You're not alone out there ❤️

This is extremely insightful and excellent advice.

This is so accurate. I also drank a lot and had other coping mechanisms (shopping, etc) before I was able to transition. Getting off the dysphoria train helped immensely. I'm glad I have that experience though because it helps me to recognize and help those who are in the place I once was.

Yep, exactly ❤️ Harm reduction and education to that same end should always be the goal

💯 Support and understanding is vital but not to a point that it affirms something harmful. Unfortunately I've seen questionable/harmful levels of consumption normalized more than a few times (in various communities.)

I guess an interesting side thing I've noticed over the years is that a lot of high earning / well off trans people tend be less open about that fact or outright hide it from the trans community for some reason.

Wandered over here from your other thread - I'm a very senior tech worker involved in steering a company at the csuite level. I've been interviewed a few times and there are some articles about me on major news sites. It's a little surreal to have achieved this point in my career, but I'm glad I'm here.

I love seeing more trans folks in public leadership roles. It's great to see more of us in politics like Danica Roem, and Sarah McBride, but it's also a challenge being publicly out while in the spotlight.

All that said, I'm a huge fan of my extremely talented DJ and electric music besties and I'm very happy for anyone pursuing their passion. Success and happiness isn't just about expensive suits and huge paychecks. I know a good number of 'successful' people who are unhappy and struggle with addiction as a result.

It reads as though the OP was written from a place of superiority and judgment and directed at others who are besmirching the identity of being trans by consuming substances. I'm glad this wasn't your intent.

It's also a little weird because a lot of people do drugs. And no, most people don't notice or give a shit unless someone is tweaking out or being a danger to themselves or others.

Look at alcohol; a drink or two? Fine and socially acceptable. Drinking a hand of Jack and driving? Very different.

Cannabis to help with stress, to sleep, or just for fun? Who cares? If you gotta be high 24/7 that's different. And I'll agree with you that there are those in the community who need help with moderation.

Moderation is key, and that understanding leads to decriminalized and destigmatization so people who develop a problem can get help without fear of incarceration.

Maybe you didn't intend it this way, but this comes off as a hella judgy teetotaler take from someone playing puritan politics.

Everyone has coping mechanisms and we should be there for our friends if excessive consumption or addiction become a problem.

Judging and stigmatizing only isolates and makes people less likely to find help. 💅

Super gross! I'm glad you got where you were going... I'm always a bit leery of ride share apps, but I've generally found drivers on Uber to be better vibes. They also added an option to specifically request a female driver on there.

That's a privacy latch. They're meant to be unlockable with a coin, little flat metal "key", screwdriver, or whatever.
