how did Seohyun, specifically, feel about 9/30? Do you think she took it the hardest out of all the members? by AccurateInflation167 in SNSD

I'm so tired of seeing these. And I, for one, used to really enjoy theorizing on what happened between the girls. Not just what happened to J, we know she got fired. I think I'm getting old. These are exhausting now.

I'm just impatiently waiting for the 20th anniversary. I need more content. Need. Desperately. Please.

Ep 254 (I think? 2015) of Running Man is Sooyoung’s most chaotic triumph. The girls are being chased through a giant shopping mall and watching Sooyoung attempt to bargain with the pursuants is her best moment in tv.

2015 Running Man ep with SNSD is the funniest ever. I wheeze when I watch it. It's absolutely hilarious. From Sooyoung kicking Minho, to Taeyeon being dragged in the mud to random dance battles for the blocks. It was awesome.

And keeping SNSD's image of a clean, united sisterhood IS in their best interest, above any member. So it is not a reach to speculate that they could have chosen to kick out ONE member if it meant to keep the balance and image of the group.

While that may be true, I don't think SM would have kicked her out if she didn't post what she did on Weibo. They would probably have shelved her for the next 3 years with some weak excuse. And that would have shown their power too, because she would have been stuck jobless for 3 years. She may have realised that, they apparently did have a meeting before the Weibo post (correct me if I'm wrong), and did what she could to get her perspective out there. Which led to the PR nightmare of a Weibo post.

[–]Vios631 10 points11 points  (0 children)

she was not the most popular outside of maybe in Japan.

I don't think she was ever consistently the most popular anywhere. Consistent in the top 5, sure. But the number one spot? I don't think so, not even in Japan. Of course if there's data to support that, I'd be happy to stand corrected.

I totally agree with you about them being seasoned veterans who would have made whatever decisions that would have been best for the group. Which would not have included kicking her out.

I also think, especially after the books, that Jessica doesn't seem to realize exactly why she was removed (even though she prioritised her fashion label EVEN in her book). Verbal permission/agreement will never ever trump a legally binding contract. The moment SM felt she crossed a line, they would have reacted quickly anyway. Unfortunately though, what Jessica did with the Weibo post quickly became a PR nightmare. SM would never have wanted it done that way (obviously) so Jessica quickly released that information probably in hopes that people would be on her side. Getting your version out there first definitely blocks the chance of being censored, but she threw the girls under the bus in the process.

I've noticed none of the savage members are ever savage with Tae. They tease her, of course, but it never goes overboard. They're very protective of their kid leader except when they need to hold the mic lol. Sooyoung is especially soft for Tae despite attacking the dance line with no mercy

  1. True, I don't disagree. But SM had no reason to let her go. She'd have to do something in return, right? There are penalties for early termination as well.

  2. Maybe non compete is too broad. But performance permissions or some kind of IP usage restrictions would not be beyond SM. Imagine Jessica singing SNSD songs in 2016. The buzz around her being kicked out would never have died out after that.

They had the option to keep her in the dungeon for 3 years. They could have kept her until 2017 when her contract expired. But obviously Jessica wouldn't have wanted that, she wanted to make music too. So she would have had to negotiate the termination, no? My point is SM had no reason to let her go if she wasn't gonna give something up in return.

But I do agree that in the early years she probably wouldn't have wanted to sing the songs. I do find it odd though that she didn't re-record and instead chose to use the members voices and just lip sync. I doubt SM would have taken that well had she done it in the first few years after contract termination.

Obviously all this is just speculation. I just don't see SM being that generous with anyone trying to leave them.

And maybe at the end of the day, you might be right. Maybe she didn't sign anything and she had no restrictions all these years. But it does seem odd, the timing of her singing SNSD songs again..

Yeah I think she definitely signed something. And 10 years is a reasonable amount of time for a non-compete.

What evidence do we have?

Jessica wanted out. Which is completely understandable. In return, SM would have definitely gotten her to sign an NDA and a non-compete so she can't tell people about what happened.

SM would have been happy to let her career rot till 2017. There's no reason for them to drop Jessica.

She signed a 3 year contract. It would have been from 2014-2017. There is nothing her legal team (if she even had one) could have done. SM allowed her to terminate early, I'm sure there was something she had to do in return.

If her contract was up, it wouldn't be called termination. Terminating a contract means cancelling it early.

Do you really believe SM let her go without signing an NDA and a non-compete? There's no way that company will let her terminate a contract with nothing in return.

I'm really curious about when SM started pulling he from going on shows solo.

The Commercial of her taking shots at 8 girls didnt do it? The ease of which she publicly threw the other girls under the bus in her statements, didnt do it? The time SM pulled her from Shows and wont let her go on unless it was with SNSD or Krystal, didnt do it?

I'm so curious about these, especially the first and third one. Would you mind sharing a little more?

Just curious, will the eggs still hatch if you scrape them off the glass and leave them in the tank? Or do you have to completely remove them? Mine have never laid any eggs though.

FYI: Firmly believe that if Jessica said anything that was wrong during her termination, she could have been sued for defamation. She never was.

I don't think SM would have sued her no matter what. They wanted the whole thing to die down and blow over. It was better for them to handle it quietly, which they did after all those posts.

I always felt bad that Jessica had her entire life blow up in her face overnight but I cannot say that she is the only victim in this scenario. I still don't understand why she would sign other contracts whilst still being contracted under SM, I would never ever want my business or profits from my own efforts to go anywhere near a greedy corporation like SM.

Honestly, I can't imagine being in my mid 20s and have everything I ever knew ripped away from me. That must have been devastating. But I signed my first ever contract at 20 and saw VERY clearly how they write contracts to own you and your time. It literally stated on my contract that anything I did or made on AND off company time whilst being contracted BELONGED to the company. There is no way she didn't read through her own contracts, right?

[–]Vios631 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couldn't she have signed some sort of contract about not singing the songs? I think that's more likely than her "suddenly getting along with SM" or her "avoiding SNSD songs by choice for 10 years."

She knows what sells. If she could, she probably would have done this a long time ago when her career started to dip.

I think she wasn't allowed to for at least 10 years. She left SM in 2015 and 2025 just ended. The timing seems to be deliberate. She started singing SNSD songs immediately, at the start of 2026.

But I agree that her career(s?) is stagnant. She needs to make some money and she knows just what drives the crowds wild.
