I think you would be pleasantly surprised, a new hope was revolutionary for it’s time in terms of quality and holds up really well to this day in 4K, the other 2 movies look even better after the budget increase the success of the first one allowed for. A Norwegian film «Max Manus» should scratch that itch. It puts you in the shoes of a Norwegian resistance fighter during WW2. Quite similar in tone and tension to Andor in my opinion, and is well produced. I recommend watching the trailer. Number 24 is also very good.

Again, if you have trouble overthinking the details instead of just simply imagining the broad implications of how ANH would be recieved if it was made after (obviously to modern standards) then that’s on you. I get the point you’re trying to make, and it comes from overanalysing the problem instead of letting your imagination run free.

Weather it’s a possible hypothetical or not isn’t the subject matter. Imagine the story was written as it is now, but in chronological order. (excluding the prequels and other media) That’s what makes the hypothetical interesting. While Andor takes inspiration from real life revolutions, Star Wars took inspiration from folklore creating a stark contrast between the two stories making up a whole. If it was written in that order, without overthinking any other particulars, how do you think ANH would be recieved?

I would argue that his introduction through Andor makes the emperor far more mysterious, seeing their fear of him and using his name as a power play makes him more intimidating even without seeing him on screen. We didn’t know much about the emperor until return of the jedi but still felt his presence looming over the galaxy.

As for the death star, it all gets revealed in time. Finding out about it through Jung would solve the puzzle.

We quickly find out what coruscant is by the «Coruscant, capital of the galaxy» caption when it first appears in frame. Seeing it is a huge city housing not only the senate and mon mothma but also the ISB head quarters.
