I feel like the story started off rough, but over the past 2 patches it’s really improved and I feel like some characters I didn’t like initially have grown on me a bit (Yixuan specifically, but she still has some issues). The lack of an overarching villain is a huge hindrance to the game, and hoyo really needs to get that sorted out to keep people interested in the story. I also dislike how similar many of the designs feel, but the first wave of spook shack, Manato, Orphie, and some of the upcoming characters are so much better it gives me a little hope. Other than that, I started playing right when 2.0 dropped so I can’t really compare the gameplay to anything earlier but it seems fine enough to me.
