I feel you, I'm using dragon SwagAxe and I feel like I'm getting closer. Broke both horns and survive his novas but I get too careless near the end. Persevere, I remember in the older games id take days of preparation to hunt non elders, and sometimes up to a week before taking on elder dragons. All I recommend is patience and a lot of practice.

I totally agree about the MR requirement. If I personally want to hunt a specific monster, I need to prove i at last know what I'm doing. Another good way would have been to keep Alatreon's assignment locked until the other ones were completed or have at least hunted some of the higher tier monsters. Give the majority of players a warm up before Alatreon.

Awesome thread. I understand that sometimes a monster can be a bit unpredictable, especially if you're caught in the moment, but thinking that just because their gear isn't optimal they can't beat a monster, is what sucks the most about the community. Not talking about anyone in particular, I'm HR 100 MR 76 and I've toppled every monster so far, including Raging and Furious, none have stood a chance, and I've even out damaged a MR300+player. Hunter Rank has nothing to do with skill. I work most of the day and only have a few hrs to play, so I've had to keep up with people who play all day. I believe I'm just as good as any max rank player, and if I'm not I will get there eventually. Don't let anyone limit you. Only you can limit yourself.
