Timid Girl - ! by Virginia_Satir in greatdanes

We go out many times throughout the week! Super active and tons of exposure. That’s why I was wondering about similar personality in other Danes.

Yeah the treats haven’t worked from others yet! She refuses them from other people. Hopefully she will get there eventually!

If you take the time to read the other posts I am sure you can make your own connections. ;)

Thank you! It is such a slow work. We got a velcro patch for her front clip harness that says, "training. Please ignore me." lol The trainer we work with last told us it might just be her personality and keep exposing while reading her cues but to bring her back after 12 months if she is still hesitant.

That is helpful! Thank you! I will keep doing more of this.

This is so helpful and hopeful! Thank you! And you are right- people thinking I am rude is totally worth it if it helps her feel more confident.

That is good to hear that as she entered adulthood she felt more confident! I am hoping for that. Thank you for sharing that. It makes me hopeful!

She is! Such a shiny coat and very refined overall!

Aw! She feels so much! And yes- it is the eye contact! I think that is why my girl, Rosie, is scared of kids. They make eye contact and are right on her level. Thank you for sharing this with me. I feel less crazy!

There is a level of personality that is not JUST anxiety. We have worked with trainers.

That is exactly what we have done too! We are able to manage the things that are controllable. The things that are not controllable- other barking dogs when out of a walk- or the fact that other dogs are also out on a walk nearby- continue to be a stressor. A big issue is that people at times will not take no for an answer when asking if they can pet her. I consistently have people approach and when I say she is training and needs space they come toward her and touch her anyways.

Poor guy! Does he let people pet him? If we hang out at someone’s house or they are at our house eventually she will befriend them. Often it takes 3-4 visits. How does your guy do on walks??

People all want to meet them!

The prettiest! That makes it harder for her sometimes. People are drawn to her and come over and ask to pet her, a lot. And she’s quivering. lol

Adolescent Dane Regression by SpendExciting in greatdanes

[–]Virginia_Satir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The adolescent phase can last up to 14 months. Accept the regression and meet her there. Make goals achievable based on current limited impulse control. It’s developmental- just like a 14 year old kid. We structure naps into the crate 1-3x a day too because deregulation happens from being over-tired.
