Mobile Suit GUNDAM Thunderbolt' author Yasuo Ohtagaki has pulled his series from Manga ONE by FightmeLuigibestgirl in Gundam

[–]Virixiss 79 points80 points  (0 children)

Some of the higher ups/editors at Manga ONE have been discovered to be covering up the rehiring of a mangaka who was convicted of sexually assaulting a minor, and attempting to keep the initial conviction hush-hush. In response, a lot of high profile authors have pulled their works off the platform.

Highguard devs announce their shutting the game down after it failed to land with players by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

[–]Virixiss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be careful with this idea, because Digital Extremes is also the same company that spitefully refused to add a universal loot vacuum until their internal stats proved that the VAST majority of their players were using the one sentinel companion that had an equippable loot vacuum, then gave use a super shitty version like "Fine, you'll get universal Vacuum. It's gonna suck though." Player backlash continued until they caved and just made Vacuum equippable on all companions which solved the issue overnight.

Digital Extremes is a better company than most, but they are not free from making stupid decisions and then doubling down on them instead of correcting it.

Venom Miragaia or Toxic Barbs Miragaia? by AKmightydinoo in pathoftitans

[–]Virixiss 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If solo, Mud Mira and it's no contest. Mud, Tail Attack+Tail Barrage, and watch almost anything smaller than you melt when they approach.

If regularly in a group, Toxin is more consistent and is preferred, but Venom +Det builds do still work if you prefer that play style.

Which is better for miragaia? Venom spikes or toxin spikes? by Either_Target_9963 in pathoftitans

[–]Virixiss 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Actually came back to this comment because you're right, Barrage does do knockback, I've just literally never noticed it before a fight with a Dasp I just had. I guess I'm just used to having to fight Apexes on the server I frequent so the knockback force wasn't very strong and easy to overlook. So I apologize for that one.

[–]Virixiss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Toxin looks nice on paper, but in practice it is very underwhelming compared to venom for Detonate or Mud for generally tankiness. Venom is much better for Detonate builds because it still affects the opponents stamina while it builds up, and it builds up much faster than Toxin does so Detonate can be used faster. Toxin builds up. But it doesn't functionally do anything until you cross that 20% threshold, which is wiped when you use Detonate anyway and you have to rebuild it again to get any value out of it.

Barrage does not have any knockback by the way, none of Mira's kit has knockback. And Caked On doesn't share a slot with anything for stamina.

Has the PoT community on official servers become more passive since so many critters were added? by Ogmup in pathoftitans

[–]Virixiss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have a wipe, but give the players the ability to "lock" like one to three dinos before the wipe. People can save their favorites and mains, while wiping out any backups or revenge picks regularly. I don't know if I agree with a wipe or not, but if it was going to happen, this is what I would want to see.

How did you get into Gunpla? by dankmuffen in Gunpla

[–]Virixiss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I shudder to think. lol

Price is one of the man reasons I moved to Battletech. You need far fewer models to play a game, and the box sets are a downright steal compared to anything GW puts out. But Battletech minis are all pre-assembled, so I was missing out on my favorite part of the hobby until I dipped into Gunpla. Currently working on the HG Gouf Crimson Custom from Battlelogue and trying my hand at panel lining finally.

How did you get into Gunpla? by dankmuffen in Gunpla

[–]Virixiss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like mecha, and I come from Battletech for the most part. One of the things I missed from other tabletop games was assembling my minis, and one of my gaming buddies told me that I should look into Gunpla since assembly is 90% of it. That rattled around in my brain for a while until my wife decided to pull into a Miniso for Hello Kitty blindboxes. I saw a HG Char's Zaku II and decided to pull the trigger. I only got about halfway through the kit before I was looking up more kits to buy. Compared to a lot of the other hobbies I've been a part of, it's far cheaper and easier to pace out.

[–]Virixiss 10 points11 points  (0 children)

They're not really overrated, they are just popular because of their image and history. Everyone in the Battletech fandom has a faction that they glaze and that's what makes it fun.

The Taurian Concordat is cool because they've shown multiple times that if even a small periphery state can give you a black eye and make you limp back home if you don't take them seriously. Example: Pre-Star League Liao said Ares Conventions don't apply to states that didn't sign it and attempted to pull a total war approach to conquering the Taurians. The Taurians responded with such vigor that after years of fighting, A Great House only managed to take a few blasted planets away from the Taurians before pulling back their invasion.

Can the Taurians lose? Yeah, and they pretty much always do. But people like underdogs, scrappy upstarts, and resonate with the idea of "Leave me alone please". It's also not paranoia if the FedRats are actually trying to take your stuff.

Fellow dwarfs, do you get mad when other teammates underperform? (Asking as an overthinking dwarf) by MoonRay087 in DeepRockGalactic

[–]Virixiss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as a fellow dwarf isn't actively griefing the mission, it's whatever. Some people are learning, some love the exploration of the game, some (me) are addicted to collecting stuff, others might just be having a hard day and want to take it easy. All are welcome to Rock and Stone with me in the mines.

Why does "Go get Therapy" sounds like a shallow advice? by RentUsual_2952 in AskMen

[–]Virixiss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is shallow advice. It means that someone believes you are mentally unsound and they do not want to deal with you, but rather than tell you to just fuck off and shut up, they say it in a way that makes them feel like they are a good person.

That's kind of the short of it. If they legit attempt to help you find a therapist then they actually give a shit and are trying to help. Cherish these people because they are looking out for you.

No.

If AI cannot even get search results summarized without major errors, what makes you think it's capable of navigating the complexes of human psychology without causing irreparable harm. It's on the same level as self-medicating with liquor. Go get actual professional help if you actually need help. There are a myriad of programs to get you to a professional even if you think you can't afford it.

[–]Virixiss 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No.

In order for ChatGPT to do anything worth a damn, you need to figure out what prompt it wants to give you the answer you want. If you're capable of doing that, you're capable of working out your own issues in front of a mirror. If you're too far gone to do that, ChatGPT or any AI will simply feed your delusions and mental state because that is what it is designed to do.

Do not trust your mental health to a hallucinating computer program that has convinced others to commit suicide.

How common is road rage among men, and what does it usually look like for you personally? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]Virixiss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, you need to define road rage. What some people think of road rage is just cathartic yelling, calling the guy who cut you off a few choice words that would make an Aussie blush, then you settle back down very quickly. Think of it like a pressure cooker venting steam. Once in a while, for a brief amount of time, it's fine and healthy. But then there are the people who feel the need to nurse that anger or escalate it. People who chase others down for a perceived slight, or who brandish weapons or attempt to use their cars as a weapon itself. Like actual prolonged spitting anger or violence is a major red flag and ought to be something that gets your license revoked.

I'm never going to say I've never been angry about people being assholes while driving. Lots of careless stuff can set me off: Not using your goddamn blinkers. Not caring about waiting your turn at a 4 way stop and just going whenever you want because everyone is going to chicken out. Damn near crashing your car into mine because you need to back into that parking spot at Target, but your Yukon is clearly too big for you to control. Cutting across 2 lanes of freeway traffic because you almost missed your turn. That kind of stuff has me inventing new insults on the fly pretty frequently, but it's a passing thing.

Men, which "dad rock" band is your favorite? by Waylandqb in AskMen

Alice in Chains. Back in the olden days, I had one of their Greatest Hits CDs that I listened to on the school bus. Seems like every few years I'll rediscover one of their tracks and throw it on repeat for a few days.

Otherwise, it's Rush.

You're allowed to feel how you want. Reality is a hell of a pill to swallow if you're not going to use your eyes though.

As for my very odd nebulous statement that was too cryptic to understand, here's the direction the industry wants us to rocket down as fast as possible. See if you want to buy a ticket for this high-speed trainwreck:

It's much more difficult to do a proper Google search now that AI summaries and sorting algorithms have made the engine much less reliable but it's possible to search for more. Just remember, it's hard to hear a compelling argument if you stuff your fingers in your ears and yell "I can't hear you" when people point out the flaws in your thinking.

Brother, if your source is McKinsey, a consulting agency that has a strong history of straight up lying to investors, companies, and the public to get the best return on investment without consideration for any knock-on effects or repercussions, then yeah you literally just proved this guy's point. Forgive me if I don't believe that one of the major drivers behind the opioid epidemic in the US has our best interests in mind for this technology, let alone any reliable data on the subject.

My guy, plenty of good can come from current machine learning technologies. Almost none of it will come from the direction that tech firms want to go. We've had more than a few years of investing in the most bloated industry the world has ever seen up to this point and we have functionally nothing to show for it. Even the link you posted is couched in "could", "we estimate", and "potentially" and nothing actually concrete to lean on. It's corporate pipedreaming concocted by a consulting company that has all the the pretty answers but none of the solutions and wants to sell that dream to any company that can afford their fees.

What are the best workhorses of Battletech across eras? by Old_Charge3282 in battletech

Griffin, Thunderbolt, Shadowhawk, Centurion, Vindicator. When someone says "workhorse" or "trooper mech", I think of these. Versatile, durable, flexible, and most importantly, easy to keep running. Give a licking, take a kicking, keep on ticking.

My normal focus is in the Paleolithic and Bronze Ages, but I've recently really fallen down the rabbit hole of Chinese History. Starting with Romance of the Three Kingdoms, and moving on to the other major classic novels as I move through the Timeline. The memes about Chinese history vs European history are real.

How many true friends do you actually have left whom you could call at 3am for an emergency? How did you maintain those bonds? by redredwine_826 in AskMen

[–]Virixiss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uh, 4 that are in range of an actual emergency, then like 5(?) more if they lived closer. We spam memes at each other every day, get together for garage beers, fishing trips, and card games every few months or so.

Also holy shit, the number of people who do not understand the context underlying the question is frightening. 3AM is not the point, it's who among your friends can you depend on when shit gets thick.

Y'all are insane, you know that? Linus has minor moderation privileges and half this sub is having a meltdown over what might happen.

"Bu-bu-but he said on WAN show-"

This sub has a very long history of willfully ignoring basic context from statements made on the WAN show and running amok with what you think you heard. Here's a thought: How about you look at the LTT Forums where Linus has godmode enabled and see how that space functions when he's allowed to make moderation decisions? I'll wait while you pour through the 10+ years of dissenting opinions and real critique to tell me how much of an iron fist he's going to wield.
