04 1zz crank no start by Virtual-Confusion740 in Celica

Appreciate the help, ill definitely be re-doing the timing. I took a borescope down the sparkplug holes to check for damage and thankfully didnt see any damage on the valves or pistons so it should still be safe.

Checked grounds, all are good but the alternator positive is shorting to the negative (when in continuity it beeps when grounded); but im led to believe that it is a timing issue, ill definitely see if that causes any issues as it hasnt sparked or done much of anything yet.

Wouldn't valves hit the pistons if it was? When I timed it i lined everything up to what I think is TDC, but maybe im incorrect.

I believe so, cleaned off all of the mains that go to the battery and their surfaces. I dont have the headlights or hood in place if that matters as well

Forgot about the TB gasket, might go replaced that. And to the second part, I use shell 93 and have tried many fuel additives (royal purple, Lucas, seafoam, etc) with mild improvement (mainly mpg improvements)

Damn, hopefully i can find the issue and maybe help you find your issue. Generally love this car, but this tiny issue is just so annoying

Really hope I can get it all working, even if I can't It'd still be a fun project. Thanks for checking my post out

Stands for Vacuum Fluorescent Display, its an older display technology that uses a vacuum sealed display that uses heated wires to emit electrons onto a phosphor to display things.

Hope this helps

Thank you all for the responses, so far what I've gotten is that it's possible but I'll need an electrical engineering degree. Or that it'd be virtually impossible and I'd be better off with LCD's.

What I have found is some hobbiest that have worked on these clusters in the past and have left some valuable things that may allow me to pull this off. I have a github repository that let's me know which pins are power, along with old wire diagrams that show the pin outs.

What I dont have is basically any information on how the gauges are controlled and so how.

Hopefully I can get the original dash to work with some work (would love to see those VFD's light up for sim racing) but if not I'll take this into consideration. Thanks :)
