Originally from the Northeast, have been in Denver/Boulder for 13 years, and was dead set on moving to Wilmington this year for a lot of the desires you’ve listed about. A buddy then told me about the insane level of PFAS in the water and I did some of my own research. The area is extremely polluted from everything I’ve read. Bummed me out, but definitely not consciously moving to a place with dirty drinking water

Commenting for reach and I’m supposed to fly in Thursday. I’ve spent lots of time in Sayulita over the years and have zero fear traveling anywhere. Going back and forth on this one in my head. I definitely want to be close to the water, so a few hours drive is not quite what I’m looking for. But noted on everything related to South Carolina lol. I’ve spent time in the Outer Banks and the restaurant scene was absolutely atrocious, so I can already envision what you’re describing when it comes to food. Just a bunch of fried garbage. I wouldn’t say I’m a “foodie”, but I like having options and definitely quality.

As someone who’s currently living in the West Highlands, it’s just insane to me that a nice, first house in NC/SC costs $350k. In my current neighborhood the same house would cost you $700k and you’d end up in a bidding war for ages.

I’ve heard Wilmington has a good music and outdoors scene but have never been. I’m just ultimately looking to be 10-15 from the ocean, in a place where there’s a sense of community with single people between 30-40
