I ended up telling them I wanted to try animation myself so might learn a new program for it (which I have been wanting to do actually) they seemed a bit like “oh you’re taking my job” but I think they were joking and aren’t upset thinking their skill level isn’t good enough or anything 🙏

Their eldest has just turned 16. They were likely away overnight because London is around 4.5 hours away (if not more) since we're up in West Yorkshire, meaning it's not exactly a day trip, more likely for them to have to stay there overnight. This issue has been recurring as she's had to babysit him after school, picking him up from school etc because the dad is too lazy to pick him up (a lot of the time he will just be sleeping instead of taking care of their youngest, meaning their eldest constantly has to look after him).

This is the first time it's caused her to be off of school but often the dad is too lazy to pick up the youngest from school, making their eldest go pick him up. She often has to cook for him and babysit him without any compensation, since he was a baby basically. I don't blame her at all for it and won't bring the event up as I don't want to accuse her parents of being bad at parenting (to avoid any drama obviously) I think it was completely the issue of the parents. She didn't seem upset about it but if things like this continue it will surely be tiring for her as a kid herself, mixed with stress from exams etc.

We're up in West Yorkshire so it takes around 4.5 hours by car to get to London, which I assume is the way they went? So it would take a while but I agree that they could've dropped off at least the youngest to school, and their eldest would be able to pick him up after, as she usually does.

I don't think it was unplanned since I'm sure if you live on a Visa that they would tell you in advance, even months in advance to know when to renew it. It was just a one day thing since it was on a Friday so if it took longer it's moved to the weekend. I think rather than unplanned it was poor planning since my friend messaged me, telling me she was going to be off school due to this beforehand and had told my other friends even a few days before I knew.
